Pounding the pedals for a good cause

Hop on your bicycle. You're invited to support a good cause by participating in the NovemberFest Metric Century today. There's an entry fee, but the entire fee will be dedicated to the programs and services at The Center, Serving Persons with Mental Retardation. The ride will begin at 9 a.m. at Willow River Farms, 4073 FM 3318 in Brookshire, about 70 km west of Houston. Riders can choose from 15-, 45-, 70- or 100 km routes near Stephen F. Austin State Park and the surrounding countryside. The ride is being held in conjunction with NovemberFest 2004, featuring food, music, live and silent auctions, a petting zoo and a parade. Festival admission is free. Call 713-525-8484 or visit

This can't be happening in the USA. THEY ARE NOT METRIC.

The name metric century is derived from the the 100 km event.

I'm trying to work out if that's the most pointless post you've ever made or not - I'll get back to you on that.

BTW - there's a minority group that rolls cheese down a big hill once a year. Should this be cause for concern as I guess it paves the way for a "cheese rolling down a hill century"
