The whole incident was staged to raise interest and gain sympathy for a dying cause. You imperialists really are desperate.

I can understand your suspician Erin but I don't think it's safe to draw that conclusion. If we are wrong then it will only make things worse.

It is hard to understand why anyone in this man's position would do such a thing. He couldn't possibly hope to gain anything. He clearly played right into the hands of Mr Herron.

The tone of the e-mail doesn't seem characteristic of someone with the literary skills of a language translator. Maybe it was intended as a joke (I don't suppose he was aware of the anniversary of Steve Thoburn's death).

Whatever the truth I just hope that anyone reading about it in the press will put it down to the irrational and foolish outburst of some individual whose actions in no way represents the pro-metric community or is typical of EU staff.

I'm surprised the Independant printed the story actually - since this isn't much of a story unless it is to be used to raise the profile of the metric martyrs again.

The tabloids seem to have given up on the whole thing.

That isn't really significant, tho', as the tabloids are full of cr*p.

What better way to gain sympathy from apathetic citizens and bring attention to the fact that metrication is still happening and nobody but the diehard imperialists care. Can you think of a better way to stir the masses then to make it look like metricators are evil, vile creatures who resort to nastiness to push metric on people and imperialists are sweet, life loving common people with a heart?

Mr. Jones (if such a person really exists), may be a supporter of the imperial cause paid by the imperialists to pretend to be pro-metric. Before you all assume that this really did happen we should all demand some real proof other then an article in an anti-EU, anti-metric publication.

Be aware folks, there are elections coming up in the UK on 05 May and what better timing to have something like this suddenly occur if not to help the cause of such parties as the UKIP or Veritas. Desperate people will stoop very low if they feel it will help their cause.

Actually the Independant is one of our few newspapers that is not fiercely anti-EU and anti-metric, hence my surprise at why they published it.

With respect Andy, you know that erin (john) knows next to nothing about the UK, hence his bold statement that The Independant is anti-EU and anti-metric.

Next he'll be saying that the BNP shouldn't be so communist!!!

<<Mr. Jones (if such a person really exists), may be a supporter of the imperial cause paid by the imperialists to pretend to be pro-metric.>>

That is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS !

Check it out! You can replace "Mr. Jones" with any of the names that John has decided to use (on this ocassion 'Erin').

Absolutely Fantastic!

You will not believe how wonderful that sounds!
