I found this little book a couple of days ago, titled The Last Lecture. Turns out, it was a real deal, a professor from Carnegie Melon - Randy Pausch, terminal cancer, last opportunity to talk, while still healthy.
So, it's a last will and testament. On it's own, its just the sort of self basting treacle that usually you'd just email on to the next indifferent person on your list. However, it's real and the guy has some good things to say and if it's just a little smug, well hey, he was entitled.
It is sort of fascinating, here's this guy, pondering his own mortality and instead if it being swift, he gets 6 months. What would you do? He's a professor, he gives a lecture. It's nothing earth shattering, but it's poignant. I actually read the book yesterday and then just finished watching the actual footage of the lecture on Youtube. The book and video or almost identical but the book has some added thoughts and anecdotal snips. Sad and cool.
