As a Christian, being raised as a Christian and having God being the center of my life (now and then), my parents allowed my sisters and I to participate in the traditional events of door to door “Trick or Treating” and we always got a “treat” and not a “trick”. That participation brings back fond memories…..nothing about it ever occurred to me as “evil” during those childhood years.
I remember almost all things of Halloween with fondness (the drawing of witches on broomsticks with the moon in the background) and to me as a child (being raised to believe in God) it had nothing to do with the devil but all to do with “spookiness”, “fun” and best of all the treats (candy apples, pop-corn balls and candy)!
My perception of “ghost” was “Casper the Friendly Ghost and Wendy his best friend. As for Halloween being “evil”……..that is in the eyes of those who perceive it as “evil”. So long as you have trust in your children and the faith you have given them in the belief of God and his son……..then Halloween is a time of fun and NOT a time of celebration of “paganism” and “evil”.
This is only my opinion…..Have a Happy, safe Halloween and may you receive your favorite candies this 2009 Halloween Day!
"This above all: to thine own self be true!"
Respectfully Yours,
James
