| in an instantaneous speed; issues are advocated and debated at the
speed of one’s fingers. Facebook, the internet’s most prominent social
website, is fast becoming a medium for dialogue, and is a vast pool
of current information for interested Papua New Guineans. One of
specialties of Facebook is that it allows users to join forums, called
groups, where they share common interest and ideas, and debate issues
in real time speed. Sharp Talk, created by Papua New Guinean, Henao
Douveri, is Papua New Guinea’s leading Facebook group that has debated
and advocated a lot of issues since its inception; most recently
Sharp Talk was actively involved in the arrested of two expatriate
citizens who posted a notice that was racist in nature at mega
shopping mall, Vision City.
In the group sharp talk, you will find, and have the privilege, to
converse with a few prominent Papua New Guineans and parliamentarians.
One of the most notable figures is the Honorable(?) member for Bulolo,
Sam Basil. Pre the impasse, Sam Basil was an active contributor of
the Sharp Talk group; he wrote with sincerity and drew a huge
following amongst the daily bloggers. Then when the impasse befell
us, and the controversial actions of O’Neil-Namah became the cream of
most debates, honorable Sam Basil, was nowhere to be found. In
contrast, Governor Parkop faced both accolades and criticisms with the
dignity of a worthy statesman. In the impasse he (Governor Parkop)
tried his best to defend the coalition he was part of, despite the
onslaught of criticisms he received from bloggers typing safely in the
comfort of their comfy lounges. Whereas Sam Basil was nowhere to be
heard. Now that the impasse has passed and Namah and Basil have
returned to their opposition benches, Sharp Talkers were justifiably
surprised to see Hon Sam Basil returning as a contributor to the
group. His re-introductory post was articulately criticized by one of
Sharp Talk's most entertaining blogger, Dr Susan Merrell. Sam Basil’s
folly was bluntly and rightfully pointed out by Dr Merrell; that
after the administrators decided to remove the criticism out of
respect for our disgraced Bulolo MP, many bloggers who heard of it
where still searching to read the justified criticisms. Thus I would
hereby issue a caution to our new MPs who are also contributors of
sharp talk , not to follow the approached taken by Sam Basil. Avid
Contributors like Minister Malabag, Hon Juffa, Minister Toni, Hon
Knight, Hon Kipefa, etc, should refrain from practicing what Sam
Basil did, but try to maintain the honorable stance taken by NCD
Governor, Powes Parkop, facing both Criticisms and accolades. |
