Can we just get on with the elections and start afresh? the corrupt MPs can come back if we vote them back but at least we have elections and a new government formed on the floor of parliament - hopefully all these issues will be dead |
|
ok
| Re: Lets get on with Life | May 21 2012, 10:35 PM |
These issues will never be dead. Onamah will not hide. The government has long arms as the saying goes and contempt charges will still be laid so long as they are serving mps. These issues will definitely rise as they are still fresh in the minds of those that abide by the rule of law in the new parliament. |

ohhhhh pllliiiiiiisssssss
| Re: Lets get on with Life | May 21 2012, 10:50 PM |
Have you ever seen a big shot go to jail for contempt? Yeah, in other countries, they go straight to jail, no bail allowed, and sometimes stay there for months. But in PNG the best you're ever going to see is a photo op where someone like Alan Marat and Beldon Namah (remember?) step into a cell for 5 minutes, smile, then step out on bail and never go back in again.
Our government and court system are totally screwed up. There's no law for the rich and famous in PNG they can do whatever they like! |

| Wrong message | May 22 2012, 1:55 PM |
Supreme court decision is made by a very unwise CJ. Great leaders do not dwell on revenge but a resolve to make up and forgive. CJ is obviously putting his own interest before others.
Hope he finds peace in himself to sleep well over these trying times. Otherwise such decisions will haunt him all day and night.
He should have appointed a new panel to hear the court reference and disqualified himself and others who indicated to be biased. CJ and Kirrowon should be left out and new members brought in to deliberate.

The puppet CJ of Somare is clearly wrong on all counts - this biased and partisan interest serving mob must not be tolerated to rob, steal and mislead simple minded Papua New Guineans.
The O'Neill led government is proactive, is serving the interests of 99.99% of Papua New Guineans.
The Old, tired old man and his mob must accept defeat and try their luck in the elections.
The people of PNG will resoundingly reject any NA led government. Theirs is history doom.
PNG is set to move forward - not be held back by some devoid old yester year so-called leaders.

| O'Namah, Somare, both equally effective at putting public money into their private pockets | May 23 2012, 12:52 AM |
You are a very naive and gullible person if you think that O'Namah is any better than Somare. They're all out to enrichen their own pockets first, and think of the people second. The only difference between the corrupt Peter O'Neill and the corrupt Michael Somare is that the corrupt Somare thought he would continue his support simply based on him being the 'father of PNG' whereas O'Neill knows he has to play a creative public relations game if he wants to fool the people.
And he fooled you, didn't he?!!!!!!!!! |

| What's a judge to do these days in PNG? | May 23 2012, 12:55 AM |
I don't friken believe it. Do you honestly believe that the role of the judiciary or of any judge in the judiciary is to 'make up and forgive'? Good God, no wonder we're in the shape we are. Judges are simply supposed to interpret the law, based upon legal precedence, and that's all. Human factors shouldn't play AT ALL into their decisions.
I nearly cried when I read your posting of what you thought judges should be doing. |

| Re: What's a judge to do these days in PNG? | May 23 2012, 5:53 AM |
The CJ clearly had a conflict of interest no if's or but's.
Should of stepped aside and not had any influence in the deciscion making of the final SC judgment. |

Yes the CJ clearly had a conflict of interest and illegally served on the case.
Yes, the O'Namah government illegally took over from the Somare government.
Yes, the Somare government was totally corrupt.
Who's the good guy in this scene? Answer: none of the above! There are no good guys. They're all rotten! |

| The Judges made the right decision | May 23 2012, 7:03 AM |
Have you guys read the judgement and all the references and precedents quoted in relation to the decision of the SC?
I have and I can tell you that the decision is quite logical. It describes Oneil/Nama as being the "defacto government" while Somare is the "legal government". One group followed the law to get power, the other group invented new laws(which were all found to be unconstitutional)to gain power.
If you have not read a copy of the judgement, then please stop criticising the judges who are simply interpreting the law.
Those of you who are criticising the judges are Oneil/Nama supporters and you would prefer to break the law and have an illegal PM then to follow the law and have a dying PM. |

| O'Neil Takes Our Vote of Confidence | May 23 2012, 7:48 AM |
There's no saint politician in PNG. Relativity and basic common sense can be our best litmus tests for a " relatively good" government.
O'Neill is a very matured leader. He articulates and commands broad respect within our international community of nations. His government is not storing away riches in some trust accounts (only to be stolen and misused by his band of corrupt ministers like Somare). He is delivering it to the people where people really see the need for it, in infrastructure development, schools and hospitals and other important commitments.
O'Neil is vibrant, young and is well educated. His actions have been consistent and fair to everyone in PNG. Not clearly a sukudimi kitchen club by Sepik so-called elites.
O'Neil's no nonsense approach to tackling corruption through the establishment of Task Force Sweep is a feat no PM, including Somare can match.
We are just sick of sick dictators and feeble folks who should have retired a decade a go leading PNG.
Compare 9 months of leadership to 9 Years of rot and do nothings in the Somare camp.

| Re: breaking news | May 23 2012, 1:27 PM |
Contempt only refers to contempt of court. How can the judge in a court be in contempt of court when they ARE the court?
Please. Use some common sense in drawing conclusions. |

| Re: breaking news | May 23 2012, 3:26 PM |
what are his issues? Do you not all think that the mud that was flung itno the CJ's direction was a calculated attampt to dissaude public perception? ONamah knew very well that all their actions were illegal, and they also knew very well that the most senior judge - CJ injia would be presiding over the constitutional reference, aaaand they also knew that the court would find their actions unconstitutional, therefore it made sense to trump up some allegations of judicial corruption. This matter was dealt with administratively and the money was paid to mo sari jnr (btw where is he know...?? Does that not seem suspicious to anyone that he has not said anything?) Is that not the basis upon which this so called "beef" between the CJ and Onamah started? Of course Onamah knew that the CJ was going to get a stay, because the matter had already been dealt with- and it was a clear abuse of process. So is it not plausible that all this was a devious ploy by Onamah to sway public perception away from their blatant illegality?
Read the judgement, it is clear and simple constitutional interpretation. Bias....pffft...get another line and be precise. |

| lets have only one law for all | May 23 2012, 3:48 PM |
i agree with you Stoney. The CJ has not done anything wrong to be acussed of conflict of interest...It was all the O'Nama govt's doing... The law has been interpreted objectively and those of you who don't agree can go challenge it court regardless of what you think about the judges! Keep up the good work Sir CJ and protect the constitution.... Shame on the two judges who withdrew...cowards! Make a decision for your country wether for good or for worse, without fear or favor!!... These two want to only deal with simple cases??? Step up when the country needs you, not chicken out!! |
|
yeah right
| Re: lets have only one law for all | May 23 2012, 11:45 PM |
Obviously you haven't read the newspaper articles about the smart remarks the CJ said (in front of witnesses) prior to his rulings. Or maybe you're purposely overlooking that.... hmmmmmm???????? |

Oh please enlighten us by posting the article so that we can confirm the veracity of the "smart comments" in context, then perhaps you can engage in a lively debate about this so called "bias"....lay it out wantok..... |

| Re: lets have only one law for all | May 24 2012, 12:12 PM |
I think they're referring to the comments made in the presence, I THINK of the Aussie High Commissioner (but it may have been another witness) at a gathering.
At that gathering Sam Basil was introduced to CJ Injia as being the Minister for Planning.
CJ Injia muttered "not for long" in the presence of witnesses.
This all occurred few weeks before the original 9th December deadline for a decision.
I seem to recal there might have been another incident, maybe involving another judge on the panel, or maybe again CJ Injia.
Sorry, I read the info when it came out in the papers. Don't remember all the details now! |
