Kimisopa – without fear or favor

Atiyafa pledges MPs’ loyalty to O’Neill
Source:
The National, Thursday 16th August 2012
EIGHT members of parliament from Eastern Highlands remain loyal to the O’Neill government, Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa says.
Atiyafa made their positions known following an outburst by Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa who lashed out at Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on old issues.
“We, the eight MPs from Eastern Highlands including Governor Julie Soso, are ready to say we are with O’Neill.”
He said the views and comments by Kimisopa were his own and did not represent those of other MPs from the province.
He said it was unhealthy to point out issues like the NPF saga, the Moti affair and commission of inquiries when new MPs wanted to deliver services to the people.
“Kimisopa had good five years serving as internal security and justice minister and he should have talked about these issues.”
-------------------------------------

This comment is in regard to the headline in yesterday’s paper about Hon. Robert Aiyafa sidelining him and the other EHP parliamentarians on what Hon. Bire Kimisopa said regarding the NPF saga claiming it as an old issue. Reminder to the MP, it’s still fresh in a lot of contributor’s mind.

First it was the party distancing itself from him and now Mr Atiyafa. This brings to my mind two things. Either we encouraging corruption by painting an over coat of “forgive and forget” or eradicating it which was what all government claims to be their priority. Leaders without fear or favor raise critical issues that most fear mentioning. Mr Kimisopa has proven this from the start. Him and the likes of Tobias Kulang, Garry Juffa and others who we will see.

Ignoring the past may come back to haunt us while correcting the past as we move on only brightens the future and makes it more promising.

atiafa showing early signs of corruption

August 17 2012, 1:20 AM

Interesting that Robert Atiyafa can claim to speak on behalf of the other eight EHP members.... Let them speak their own mind. They are elected leaders just like you Robert, yu no mama blo ol! Atiyafa was also quoted in the newspapers as saying that all investigations into corruption should be swept under the carpet and done away with..... Wow! Very interesting! That is going against the anti corruption message the government is trying to potty to the public. Yet he claims to support Oneil.... Robert yu mas gat tuple fork tongue ya!! Contradicting yourself... It's obvus the hengamofi member is in parliament to help himself and doesn't want anyone to investigate him..... Best wishes to hengamofi people for the next five years!

Atiyafa

August 17 2012, 9:59 AM

Robert Atiyafa was the priemier of EHP from 1991-1995. He was rejected by the people of Henganofi on every elections he contested simply because of his premier days. Will not go into details. Proper screening of such people need to be made as well as people aligning themselves (with O'Neil) preaching "for the good of the country" for burying the past and moving forward.
I wonder when or who will really stand up for us. Personal enrichment overnight is what most of our leaders prioritise on. If the past is not corrected, the future is worse.

So Mr Atiyafa needs to speak for himself and not the others as they are all duly elected leaders...One need not to bow down to another but stand beside each other with teh people at heart.

It would be nice if FOR ONCE we would focus on preventing problems instead of (as you recommend) us sitting back, doing nothing, watching the problem occur, and document what's happening.

We need to know the dirt on Atiyafa NOW not later.

HOW MUCH IS ATIYAFA GETTING PAID TO INTRODUCE THIS BILL?

August 17 2012, 12:30 PM

The first outwardly corrupt move by the new MPs. I can't believe it's already happening this quickly. Let me ask-why was Fred Wak the person who spoke out against his bill. WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER MPs? Are they secretly supporting it?

Atifaya’s proposed bill slammed

By FRANCO NEBAS

PROMINENT Lae–based businessman and 2012 Lae Open runner–up candidate Fred Wak has slammed the proposed bid made by newly-elected Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa.

Mr Atiyafa proposed to introduce a private member’s bill in parliament next week, aimed at closing all inquiries, investigations and tribunals into leadership wrongdoing.

Mr Wak describes the proposal as illegal and unfair to an ordinary Papua New Guinean.

He said that if Mr Atiyafa wanted to introduce such a proposal for the members of the parliament, then it should also apply to every Papua New Guinean, especially criminals now behind bars.

“All the criminals behind bars should have their cases close and be released if Mr Atiyafa wants to introduce such bill not to entertain the MPs but also criminals where then it will be fair.

“If the law only apply to members of the parliament, then it would be unfair” he said.

He said the members of the parliament are same as any other Papua New Guineans, and should face the same law of the land. “If the leaders of parliament are found to be involved in investigations and tribunals they should face the same law of the land,” he said.

He said Mr Atiyafa should focus on what development and services could to be delivered at his electorate rather than coming up with such proposal.

“I am appealing to every Papua New Guinean to stand up and fight such bill to be introduced as it will only be unfair for everyone. The court of law applies to everyone, whether you are member of the parliament or an ordinary citizen, we face the same law of the land,” he said.

Mr Atiyafa is treading on dangerous ground. He is risking prison riots and prison breaks and putting society in grave danger.

I think the government of the day is just using him as a mouthpiece to get the public "used to the idea" before they bulldoze this Bill through with their "superior" numbers.

I wouldn't be surprised if legislation of this nature is somehow already infected the ICAC Bill...

Re: where are our voices??????

A-Many who were elected got in fraudulently.

B-We voters are too cowardly to force our leaders to stay in line once we elect them.

C-The system is corrupt and corrupts even good people.

D-Many of the candidates ran for office purely so they would have a chance in a lifetime to get super rich. We stupidly believed their sweet words and never looked deeply into their history, including that of their private lifes, to tell us what they were REALLY likely to have as their first priority once they got into office.

a saying....

August 18 2012, 9:02 AM

this one best suits our situation...

“In any country where talent and virtue produce no advancement, money will be the national god. Its inhabitants will either have to possess money or make others believe that they do. Wealth will be the highest virtue, poverty the greatest vice. Those who have money will display it in every imaginable way. If their ostentation does not exceed their fortune, all will be well. But if their ostentation does exceed their fortune they will ruin themselves. In such a country, the greatest fortunes will vanish in the twinkling of an eye. Those who don't have money will ruin themselves with vain efforts to conceal their poverty. That is one kind of affluence: the outward sign of wealth for a small number, the mask of poverty for the majority, and a source of corruption for all.”
