Papua New Guinea says a proposed billion dollar gas pipeline to Australia is closer than ever to being realised.
PNG's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, and petroleum minister, Sir Moi Avei, have returned from talks in Japan and the Australian city of Brisbane about the project.
The long-mooted project has been beset by delays, as proponents have tried to secure agreements from enough potential customers to make the pipeline viable.
Sir Moi says an announcement is expected within the next 48 hours from Comalco, which is believed to be considering becoming a key customer.
"This is the closest that we have got the project. We need to focus on one more customer to get this across the line," Sir Moi said.
