Papua New Guinea's opposition leader has criticised the country's prime minister over a row about Australian aid.
The prime minister, Sir Michael Somare, earlier this week lashed out at the system of deliving aid via Australia's AusAID agency.
His comments followed the Australian government's decision to review its $A300 million dollars of aid to PNG, which it says is not providing value for money.
PNG's opposition leader, Sir Mekere Morauta, says Sir Michael has behaved irresponsibly, and says PNG cannot afford to lose Australia's support.
"We criticise Australian aid and then when it's time for review we don't want to review it either," Sir Mereke said.
"Now what do we want? Somare says: 'Yes, review it, if they want to, remove it, remove it for God's sake.' That's irresponsible, it may be his personal view but as a prime minister running the country, it's irresponsible."
