An Australian journalist had her passport seized by Papua New Guinea authorities while she was attempting to board a flight home.

SBS Television reporter Bronwyn Ad had been compiling a report on logging in PNG for the Dateline program when the incident occurred.

She was briefly questioned by police on Friday morning and when she went to the airport later that day officials took her passport.

An SBS spokesman said Ms Ad then sought the aid of the Australian High Commissioner in Port Moresby.

After two days of negotiations, involving SBS and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Ad's passport was returned to her allowing her to leave the country.

The logging industry in PNG's Western province is alleged to be ridden with corruption involving a number of international companies and PNG government officials.

Ms Ad's report, which explores the corruption issue, will be aired on Wednesday night.
