TELIKOM PNG does not seem to know the bad implications of some of its messages on billboards around the city.
One such board was recently erected opposite the SVS at Four Mile roundabout. The message says, “Stick with us, We know PNG best.”
This is a real mockery and does not in any way appeal to the public for better services.
The implication of that message is that Telikom is undoubtedly losing customers and such a call of appeal identifies someone who is in a dire SOS situation searching for survival options.
If it was not for the Govern-ment’s telecommunication regulatory policies that are keeping Telikom alive, it would have been an unpleasant story.
Telikom claims to know PNG, but I assess that it only knows a few provincial capitals.
On the contrary, its rival Digicel, the new kid in town, knows PNG beyond the knowledge of Telikom.
It is spreading its presence through the towns and cities, down to districts and even to villages, onto the highways and the by-ways.
The truth is that Digicel knows PNG better than Telikom, although the latter has been here since day one.
The PNG public is turning to Digicel simply because it knows PNG better.
Telikom is wasting its resources and efforts sending out SOS messages by appealing to the public to stick with it without knowing that the public is lured by the quality, depth and ease of service and not by mere unsubstantiated dire appeals on billboards.
The public is getting smart these days and Telikom needs to be smarter to bargain or bow out.
Telikom should improve and broaden its knowledge of PNG before making meaningless appeals.
Shallow advertising produces bad implications and economic repercussions that are biting its own tail, forcing it to swim in circles, ending up nowhere.
It should speed up the interconnection so that Digicel can lecture it the path to knowing PNG better

Gomla Yal,
Perhaps you should do a lot more research about what type of services Telikom provided and how far into the remotest of PNG Telikom has reached.
I do not know if Digicel has a Community Services Obligation in place for the rural population. The current coverage is only along the roads and Highway.
Tell me when would Digicel Reach Green River, Telefomin or Tapini out the many places. Telikom has been there and will ALWAYS BE THERE!

Since when did Air Niugini, PNG Power, NHC or Lands Department for that matter ever provided top notch services??
They all have their own failings and who were responsible for their success or failure.... Your guess could be better than mine.
What happened to PNGBC?? Sold for peanuts and now look they have shown their true potential beyond everyones believe(maybe) but few with crooks with political connections!

I WRITE to express my suggestion to have our own repeater station or tower to be built by the Digicel telecom company on our land at Mt Saira or Mt Ruana to serve the population of more than eight thousand people for central Siane area in Chuave, Chimbu Province.
We, the people in those areas, have been left out from vital services including communication services for the last 33 years since Independence. We are still in need because during the colonial times, it was only the Anglican missionaries who brought some vital services like health, education, building several airstrips and the use of UHF/VF radio systems. But that has now been run down even though so-called Telikom PNG Ltd has been here for the last 33 years, they have never been to our area in Siane to further their services to the remote areas. So I’m now asking for something positive to be done by Digicel to send their technical teams to visit our areas. We are willing to assist them bring services to our areas.
I don't care how much my phone calls cost, I don't care about the poor service they provide, I don't care about the slow internet speed, I don't care about their lack of coverage, I don't care about the long wait to get a phone line installed or repaired, I will be with telikom all the way...
Recently i was in POm and I travelled down Hiritano Highway and what i saw was ordinary Papua New Guineans with Gidicells phones everywhere.I lived in pom for well over 26years,but I have never seen anything like that.
Telecom and bee mobile are not anywhere near as popular as the gidicell mobles. All i can say is," GO ON GIDICEL,GO ON !!!!"
So it looks like by now everybody is praising Digicell for its hard work..........Thats true I supprt them for there efforts.. But we papua New Guineans must realize that our country is a poor developing country and telikom is owned by our country how do we the people expect to have proper services if our country cant even afford to pay all the money that we own the World bank and have enough money to build towers everywhere...Telikom wants to go into the bushes and mountains and rivers and islands and do all that but we cannot because the govt doesnt have the money to allow it to do soo.....Digicell can do all that why.....because it has all the money in the world take for instance if digicell brings into this counry US$100,000.oo if you change that to PNG kina thats close to K1million then they can put up 2 or even 3 towers.
They are also cheating workers by underpaying them while all the money is send back to the headoffice in the Carribians..........
They are cheating us and we PNGeans are fools for trusting them.
I have been working for them since the start and am a manager but I get payed like a casual worker only K150.00 and you trhink where do all the money they make go.....They are ripping our country off and if Telikom fails then our country might aswell go back to colonization because we wont have money to be a sovereign state and look after ourselves...
So its all up to us as people of our nation to look out for our country or sell ourselves to outside influences..........
frustrated worker - u should simply resign, go and work with B-mobile or Telikom if you are genuinely patriotic. You r an hypocrite, and biting the hands that feed you. u don't seem to have any principles or integrity in you.
