Unfortunately we do not create employment oppertunities for everyone in this country and women are the most disadvantaged group here.
Women turn to sex work because they have nothing else to make money from. I feel for our women folk. Do not use the argument that they have land, most areas in PNG land is owned by men. With inter provincial and international marriages most of our people are being disposed of land (both men and women).
I do not like the idea of sex work legalisation but what alternatives do we have?
Until there is something better for our women, I think those that choose to work in this industry deserve to be protected because they are citizens who ought to have some rights.
At least they will be paid fairly, get regularly medical checks and be protected from men who would otherwise choose not to pay.
As a man I would not use a prostitute and I never have. As someone who grew up in a tough settlement, I would tend to be on the side of the sex workers. We have to think with our heads not our hearts.
