In every aspect,things can be categorised as a "need" or a "want".... I for one feel that for our country, legalising prostitution would come under the "want" category and will only worsen our social and economical status. we already have a very high HIV status here in our communities and our current awareness and screening methods though they are effective have not controlled the trend of HIV and STD spread.HIV and STD screening of sex workers on a regular basis in PNG with our current health state sounds like a joke with whoever proposing that being lost somewhere up in the clouds. Come back down to PNG soil and see that leagalising Prostitution will only worsen things for our country. everyday innocent children, mothers in labour, people with malaria etc die in our rural areas simply because our health budget is not enough to cover these people...maybe once these stats improve then you can start thinking of legalising prostitution in the monitored way. Legalise it now, and for sure HIV will increase at an alarming and uncontrolled rate.
