Well ladies, can we have something with a little substance. What do you think of the Women in Politics group? Do you see them having an influence on the type of women who will contest for the 22 seats?Do you see them helping them?Do you see good candidates emerging?
Just like male politics tends to attract the humbags, power hungry and intending thief men to run for office, i now feel the same is true lo sait blo ol meri politiks.
You know SL I hope you aren't right and I know you are not completely right as I myself have stood for election twice(I would not ever do it again) and although I have been called many things in my time,I have never been called a thief and if I was,I would know that it was not true.
But you weren't a good pollie and that's a big reason why you didn't win. A crafty power hungry woman would have lied whenever it seemed in order and done whatever needed to be done to win that election. You probably weren't in that category.
Probably I would never have won an election in a million years and I am glad you don't think I am either power hungry or crafty as I only wanted to see a situation where we were well-represented in parliament. As we are that now,at last, and as I don't really agree with the Women's bill,I would never stand to be the woman elected to represent women as I feel that we should be competing against the men on an even field if we are to gain their respect.Anyway, this is not about me but it is about seeing that whoever is the woman who is elected is the right woman.
Actually at the time of Independence my late husband and myself had no qualms about taking up PNG citizenship and we both went through a very rigorous process, not at all like today's process where you pay money and it is granted.I have been a proud PNG citizen since 1975.
I have spent 65 years in PNG and have given wholeheartedly back to the community where I have chosen to live.My parents gave to PNG and its peoples and so did the parents of my late first husband.
I find it extremely insulting that you would comment in such a nasty way so I guess you are just one of those really nasty people who hide behind a pen-name.
I think we all need to stop thinking that the way people present themselves on the internet is the way they are in person. The internet frees us of accountability, that is true, but it doesn't necessarily provide an accurate picture of a person. Thus, people misperceive you and comment accordingly, and you misperceive others. You have provided some very nice information that we all should take note of. But are you saying that you are about 85 years old? Were you born in PNG?
Your questions and comments to Meri Wau regarding PNG Citizenship are uncalled for.
She was contributing to the development of this country long before you were even thought of.
Myself and Meri Wau have had our disagreements over the years but I would never question her genuine love for Papua New Guinea and Papua New Guineans in general.
I find your questions insuting, inapropiate and unessesary.
I think this is not the first time you have come to my defence.I didn't know we had had any differences.I know who you are now as my kids pointed you out once in Moresby.I would have stopped and spoken to you but we were in a large group and travelling.I do remember you when you were a teenager and quite a handful of trouble but the naughtiest boys often grow in to the nicest men.
I came to PNG as a baby in 1946,that makes me 66 this year and still kicking.Actually I am still dancing!
I wish you every success in the upcoming election and I really do miss the fun of campaigning.
It doesn't really matter what you feel, Simon. This is the internet and everyone is free to comment however they want, positive or negative, polite or rude, or whatever.
At the same time, I would also attest that Meri Wau seems to have her heart for PNG and so should be celebrated as much as anyone might criticise.
But swhe DOES seem to have a lot of contradictory thoughts in her head. Like supporting things on one hand then against them on the other. Maybe its her age????????
Whether you respect me or not doesn't really bother me.THankfully I am answerable only to my own conscience.
I did not support the Womens bill as I felt that in order to attain mens respect we had to compete on an equal playing field and I still believe that but if it had become a reality I "may" have stood in the absence of someone else from our area who stood a good chance of winning. If another good candidate emerged I would have been happy to support her but for women it is hard. You pretty much need to be either divorced or widowed or smart enough never to have married in the first place-and without young kids. You also need a fairly adequate financial base,or a benevolent benefactor
As I am very much a woman I have some of those annoying female traits like changing my mind etc.
You can interpret them as being hypocritical or however you like,I don't mind and I always answer my critics, unlike some of you who hide behind pen-names and run for cover when criticised.
Don't ever think for one moment that I am dumb though.
I am lucky to have the excuse of old age and am not at all ashamed of it or try to hide it.My age has given me wisdom and confidence and the ability to sort the sheep from the goats.

Meri Wau, there is nothing at all wrong with changing your mind so long as you can justify the mind change with new information that you didn't have available to you when you made your first decision!
