olgeda hap em wankain. so my advice is check it out ya self. there's heaps of good shopping areas in Lae city. andersons eriku, papindo eriku/top town. foodmart, 8-6 shop etc etc. yu yet segim. don't listen to whoever is comparing moresby na lae bicoz olgeda hap em same. each place has it's own ups and downs.
Yeah to all that has been said. Lae City along with the rest of the country makes money and the government spends all these money on the Port Moresby building boom and on politicians.
Take the Water Board for instance. Lae is the biggest money earner for Water Board yet their head office is in Port Moresby. Now Water Board has no operations or projects in Port Moresby, Eda Ranu is doing that. Lae Water Board is actually supplementing non profitable Water Board operations in other parts of PNG as well as the HQ and staff in Port Moresby.
Or the Harbours board as another example. Lae wharf handles almost 50% of the country's international freight compared to Port Moresby's 29% yet the Harbours Board's head office is in Port Moresby. These are just two examples of how idiotic and silly the government's rationalization of office locations is without appreciation of economies of scale.
Our so-called hot members (Governor Luther Wenge nor Lae MP Bart Philemon) have never and I repeat never once actively planned to bring these Corporate head offices back to Lae. And we wonder about unemployment and opportunities and lack of money for development in Lae City. Rightfully moneys budgeted for these organizations' administration should be spent in Lae City.
I take my hats off to the businesses that have had their HQs in Lae like BP Oil, Papindo, Seeto Kui, SVS and many more. They obviously saw the business sense in having their HQs in Lae.
Which one of these 'potentials' from Morobe for the PMs job are actually thinking of bringing back Government Corporate HQs to Lae.
tankiu for the detailed infor on headquarters in pom na lae, wanbel stap. ating, yu go bek ken na readim original question na dis taim givim straight forward answer long en. sapos yu gat niupla issue lo tokaut, plis create a new post. olsem, tingting blo mi chol bata. wanbel stap.
You all stop living in denial!!!! Lae yah honest bagarap stret - not like five years ago where we can walk from top town down to market and nothing will happen to us. Now yah maski you have to be careful because some a**hole could drag you into the bush and rape you..
It is not safe in Lae so you all die hard Lae residents/ex residents nambaut yah maski long giaman stap.
Lae is worse than Pom now!!! or almost like Pom!!!...
I don't care what you want to say about this!!! BUt it is the truth!!!
ThankU 4 that reality cheack much appreciated.
But To let u know my point of veiw, no matter what Lae em peles yah,,, so nothing will change my mind. I have lived in lae or rather the morobe province all my life, regarding myself a WOPARIST to the MAX. but thanks for that reality cheack, I just want to say sometimes it depends on the person you are and what you choose to do, in Lae city... as to whateva happens to you.
But in other words Lae em orait chol.... just like any place in PNG and mipela ol Citizens blo disla hap are friendly, so dont forget to drop on by, Lae City sometime.
The Markets sell fresh foods na the Shops give U vareity, just dont forget to wear a hat and drink plenty of liquids.
yu tupla holim han na go pekpek lo eriku field. wats the big deal guys? no one's going to win this argument cause it's based on opinions. so everybody just lax out for a minute and chill. stop stressing and enjoy life. i've lived in Lae for the best part of my life...and there's nothing like it in PNG. wanpla kain BEST city steret! however, over the years crime has been on the rise and it has slowly become unsafe, especially for the ladies out there. As one of the previous ppl said, Girls can no longer walk alone and feel safe. BUT this is also the same in other major urban centres in PNG, not just lae. For example, POM - need i say more? i've been around PNG and lived in different cities/towns over the years, and in my opinion, the safest town i have lived in is Kokopo/Rabaul. it's like how lae used to be. you can go for a walk and ENJOY it, not keep looking over your shoulder checking if anybody is scoping you out. crime is ruining Lae City and its reputation in PNG. Lae is just a dim image of what it used to be back in the glory days...sore ya..

Everyone that has or lived in Lae said Lae was the best place and it is still the best place.
Lae was once the most beautiful city with no potholes,no street beggars,no pickpocketers, petty criminals who turn to harass the weak, poor and the old people who cannot fight back.
People who do that in Lae, i believe it is not mostly done by the Morobeans but i have seen most young men especially from the Highlands doing all that petty crime at bus stops and almost everywhere.
This highlanders who are doing all this petty crime are the most laziest in the all of the highlands region cause most highlands are very good people they work their land to get money from their land.
What i am trying to get across is to make Lae a better place again,
* Vote for someone who will fight to keep all Lae city gst or Tax within Lae so we can develop our city instead of sending it to POM where it is misused.
*let us all set up a volunteer network where we meet at certain times of the year to do little projects like cleaning graffies, public toilets trimming all the lawns and so forth.
* Let us all volunteer to help feed the down strodden, weak and the poor in our midst in the city it can be done at our own suburbs.
*Let us set up a collection deport where things like clothes or other stuff which is not needed by a household or companies but it can be still used can be given out to the poor.
if we voluteer our time and heart to serve Lae city i tell you this city will be the most talk about city in the years to come and we who did volunteer will be at peace to see the fruit of our volunteer work.
If any one is interested to be a volunteer please raise your hands up so we can all get together and form a net work to start beautify the city of Lae.
I am rasing my hands up now to be a volunteer cause i believe that instead of talking lets put our words into action and i am also a proud Morobean who loves Lae.
Igat sampela mo lain have the same idea for Lae, just e-mail Meri Girex and let her know. I know we can do it for the good of our city instead of sindaun na toktok o driman planti.
Why is there alot of discussions/complains about club 69, Law and order, roads, keeping city clean, etc,etc and nothing about getting off our backside and start doing something to help improve the situation.
I am all for the idea and will be working with Meri Girex and anyone who shares the same ideologies for Lae city.
Lets get organize ol concern citizen blong Lae. We can start little and move upwards.
I suggest everyone who are interested please, contact Meri Gireks on her e-mail add above, then from there, we can compile a list of members, their contact,
interest, etc na go from there. So far its me and meri Gireks.
It doesn't matter where you live in this world, if the idea is excellent for your community and can be put into action, why not try. We need honest, trustworthy person base in Lae to do the organisation, meetings, registration, planning, awareness programs etc and get the job done.
If someone is far away and bring up a good idea like this, why should we, who live right in the heart of Lae, try to discourage the idea. We should be the first to check it out, support it, and be the part of the action team.
I know meri Girex live in Australia, but if she is serious and wants to give her time in organizing such a worthwhile community service for my city, hell yes, I will give her my full support.
Stap easy, as far as mipela ol lain stap long ples are concern, these are our cities at our own level. Yu blong Australia or Europe or Kongkong level blong yu different long mipela.
Whats your definition of a city??? Population or buildings?
Don't compare our level with more advanced countries... mipela stap olraet tasol na hamamas long ples blong mipela.
Lae City was once a very attractive place. We had a beautiful beach, nice grassland long kisim sampela kol win. I remember during my childhood, walking arround in the night was alot saver thabn today. Mi Sore tru long how our wopa country is today. Mi wanbel stret long having some pela political change long Lae open na Morobe Reginal. Yupela tink olsem wanem.
trupela toktok yu mekim. The fact of the matter is, its not the Politicans who can make it safe and beautiful, it is the people who have to do that by taking pride in there surroundings and using common sense.
Yes, I agree Lae and PNG as a whole is a beautiful country natural enviroment to live, also very good for tourism . The problem is with the so called Rascals, who have got nothing better to do and live by causing harm and fear to others . I prefer the Islands Region of PNG, more peaceful.
The rascals are PNGeans and human beings who have feelings etc. If there are every posibilities to involve them in nation building with the right kind of attitudes towards citizenship etc, I think we will have less problems. All those so called rascals have at least couple of decent law abiding citizen relatives, wantoks, friends, na hauslain. Why not we, who are in these situation get them under our wings and lead them away from bad abits.attitudes of rascalism. After all we don't have rascalism in PNG long tumbuna taim. Rascals are definitely lazy people and have no place in the tribes in those days.
Now is diferrent... modern PNG na laik blong wanwan.(at least not in many rural villages)
We can help change the tide if every caring citizens sanap together na do something positive about the rascalism issues.
Rascals are minority, law abiding citizens are majority... The majority cannot let the minority run their lives.
toktok em yupla ya, shut up and call up a meeting now for all concerned lae residents who wants to give in a little of their to help out lae city. maski lo toktok tumas. just call up a meeting now and we shall attend.
if you are in Lae, please can you volunteer to get things organize on the ground with others. We really need people who are based in Lae to volunteer and get things moving. I will join you guys in mid June trough July
I agree with you, but yumi wet na eleksen resaults kamap olraey yumi wokim wok blong yumi.
well it depends on where you've been to compare shopping centres with lae. you can't say much cause most of the stuff in png are from the asian market -thus the quality but they have the best secondhands na foodmart, papindo, andersons, pelgens too stap. Freash produce at good prices from the market too you know.
Even though I'm a morobeen have lived almost all my lyfe - I prefer driving around then walking around because of the unneccesary harrasement you go through. (Ol tiny samting yah sa like acting big boys-not even there). Its definately not safe if you're new there. Advice em "opim eye na raun".
The point is -> you yet go na lukim. Everyplace has its ups and downs. If you can blend in - thats great if not den get out. Wopa 4 lyfe, mi tok!
