I have a 428 CJ with FPA tri -Y headers. Engine has been babied, no oil mods, internals are stock
240 miletrip used 2 quarts of 15W50 Mobil 1. traveled about 120 miles to a show, used 1 qt, and then used another on the return trip. Traveled on DC beltway and averaged 60 mph.
Detailed inspection of the engine revealed the following.
No valve cover leaks.
Lots of leakage from front of head-to-block gasket and the head- to- manifold gasket.
Oil dripping from bell housing cover, removed it , inside looks clean, I dont se any signs that is the rear seal.
Oil leakage on headers (down where they converge into the main collector)
I removed the valve covers. the rear most valves are submerged in oil, because the engine sits a little tail low and the oil return hold is higher in elevation that the valve itself.
Questions,
Are the symptoms listed above telling me that I am making too much oil pressure?
Can I tighten the torque down the head and hope for any benefit?
Will going to conventional old help matters?
Anybody have any suggestions?
My headers contact the motor mounts (but no the frame) is it possible that the headers are putting a twisting or prying force on the heads?

How many miles do you have on the engine? If it is below 7,000 miles, I would stay away from Syn-oil to start with! Sounds like it might be the intake leaking out some oil to me(if it isnt the valve covers)!

FE engines have a lot of oil tha goes to the top of the engine. We use to restrict the oil flow with a hooley carb jet in the oil feed port undr the rocker arm assembly. with the oil settling in the rear of the head maybe your losing some thru the valve stems and burning some of the oil along with losing it out the rear manifold gasket. So check the spark plugs for signs of burning oil. I have been away from FE engines for 18 years but its all starting to come back to me. Tony southern MD.

.....might leak as well. But that's not very commonm. I think Tony gave a good path to search for.In your case the cylinder head gasket should get some attention too.
