..........I can hear an air leak when I press the brake pedal. It is barely hearable but it's there. It seems to come from the brake booster which is a rebuilt unit that hasn't been operated too much since I exchanged it.
I had this phenomenon about a year ago and it was gone after a short while. This time it seems to persist. Any expert around who could educate me on how to solve the problem? I hate to exchange it again. It is very prizy and is an extremely unconvenient and time consuming work on the 62 T-Bird. Twisted my neck the last time
Thanx in advance

.........washed the T-Bird one morning. The kids buckled up for a ride to the next ice cream source. Car flys smooth and effortlessly through the bright summer day. Such a fine sight to see around. As we enter the city limits 85 year ol' Lady hits me at the driver door.
Cops pop up, shocked people gather around, I can read their faces they read mine. Kids o.k. no prob. Theo o.k. no prob. May I drive you home mam'? No thaks I'm o.K. What a sensation for a little village. Crappy lille rice burner hits a T-Bird. Needs a new door now and hopefully gets paid all the repair, paint job and more.
Oh, you aks about the booster? It still does sssshh!!!! but the 2 rubber stripes it did before the Lady kissed my door were 7 feet long. The brakes definately work like typical drum brakes. They just block the wheels and let you slide right into the fire. I had a hard time steering my way. Somebody asking for how to 500 horse a galaxy? What a trip man!
No, I have no idea what's up w. the brake booster. All I know is that I need to buy me a G5 Mac computer for my studies. These new programs are very demanding and some of the most important ones that I'm working with dictate a Mac. I hate it,...yeah I'm pissed, cause I have to steel some of the T-Bird money for that.
When will this car ever will be done? Please everybody pray for an idiot like me.
Thank you brother

I feel your pain. Not surewhat year your bird is, but awhile back I restored a 60. Heres the breakdown in short. I'll save you the blow by blows. Trade 77 Z28 for it. Rebuild/replace every darn mechanical, hydraulic system in this thundertird. Now paint. Wow. why am always broke? Okay wheels, clock rebuild, now the stinkin vacumn wipers get stuck in the up position. Going to back out of garage for more workroom, looking over right shoulder, forgot to close door. NEW Door! Bent hinges and pillar. Was custom color which I mixed -dont have anymore. Ready to call Dr. Kovorkian.
The only thing I didnt have to service on that pile was the booster under the dash. It hissed as well. Sold car quickly for 40% what I had in parts alone. Said never again. That was a short lived idea. Now Galaxie. Booster works fantastic so I still dont know a darn thing bout em. Looking for new doctor LOL.

....having a hobby, life passion like we have is getting tougher every day. Seems that my brain is corroding by the years too.
Guy starts his 65 T-Bird convertible, starts to open the top at the same time, turns on the radio and drives it out ..... BANG!!{³@[} goes the top, hitting the garage's top edge.
It wasn't me. At least I'm not the only lucky guy. You may have the $$ for a repair or not. The pain is always the same.
BTW my t-bird is a 62 Landau w. a 390. Have a complete 428 crank kit in the shelf since years. No time and pennies left to complete the other engine.
Selling all my automotive stuff would certainly free up space and fill up my minus account.
Just can't let it go. That's life I guess

Your model bird is a nice model/yr too me,"Get er done". You could dump and run but probably would'nt get near what is worth. All things get better with time (except rust . When I get bumbed out with my stuff I cover with a bed sheet for the out of site out of mind mentality. Only works until I get some $ and there I go again! Did you diagnos the rubber grommet on the booster for seal?

......and it's been a long time ago since I looked into a booster. At this time I even can't remember how it looks like and how it is accesible. I noticed some corrosion at the master cylinder base and along the booster where it mates the master cylinder.
I still have no time to get on it. Computers eat my life away. I hope they'll help me save time and $$ one day, hopefully soon.
I'll have to check the shop manual to get an idea where the grommet sits. Thanx for the pointer.

Pull off your rear brake drums and make sure your adjuster did not fall off the shoes. Also check the other components on the drums (springs, etc.). If you have front drums check those also. Especially if you feel like your brake pedal is going further to the floor than you remember. I had an adjuster fall off one time and heard a very obvious air noise by the booster, and even changed it. Only to find out an adjuster fell off. The pedal may be compressing much quicker and farther than it should, therefore you would hear the sudden whoosh of air down by your booster. It is normal to hear some air by your booster, it just may be more obvious now. I learned my lesson the hard way. Gary
