This question is not FE specific but I know theres alot of sharp guys in here so I figured I'd ask.
I've been hearing that Toluene (the solvent) makes a really good octane booster and that its readily available at hardware stores for like 5 bucks a gal. From what I hear it has an octane rating (not sure which type)of 114. Has any one used this stuff? Does it work well? Is it compatible with new cars? And what ratio should it be mixed at?
Thanks Guys

Toluene will work as an octane booster but there are a few things to consider.
1/- You need a fairly large amount 10% - 30%
2/- It is toxic
3/- Being a solvent there is some question about it attacking plastics & other synthetic materials in the fuel system, it will probably also attack your paint if you spill it.
Apart from that, there are ppl using it with good results but a recent Aussie evaluation of commercial octane boosters rated it no better than the best ones available off the shelf. (it came in 3rd out of 13 products tested) Also because of the large quantity required it wasn't any cheaper than a commercial product
Hope that is of some help

regards

David
