I am building (with professional help) a 428 CJ for my 67 Mustang FB. Some ppl may remember my query on Hardblock filling last year.
The basis is a 428 CJ block (Found new in storage) Unfortunately it suffered slight core shift on the left bank - not enough to scrap it but enough to take some extra precations when building for high performance - hence a 1 inch hardblock fill.
We are planning on crossbolting the mains - the bottom end is being built as rigid as possible & balanced with Mallory metal to prevent any transfer of vibration or other forces to the 3 slightly weaker cylinder walls.
My Engineer had crossbolted FE blocks before with no failures so far but because we are asking a lot from the motor (175 mph top speed) we are throwing out the question - Has anyone got any info, links or knowlege of other ppl doing this modification?? We don't want to reinvent the wheel if the knowlege is already out there.
Basic specs
Displacemet : 456 CID achieved with a heavy duty Scat stroker crank & Rods on a stock bore. Piston are a custom JE build with high wrist pin location to reduce rocking forces on the cylinder walls.

Max RPM is being kept to a fairly conservative 6000 RPM with the ability to push it a few hundred more in short bursts.

HP will be 550 or a little more, enough to achieve the performance I want & no point in going too far because of the Mustags lack of rubber with a stock body

Both Max HP & Torque will be set high in the rev range to give the top speed with a custom grind Roller cam.

Transmission : Tremec TKO 600 with 0.82 5th gear (This will give the required top speed without the drawback of 4 really long gears if I kept the original Top Loader)

This in an Australian built car - we are used to doing our own design, machining & fabrication because of difficuly in accessing the American market, so we are looking more for information rather than conversion kits etc.
My Engineer is ex Ford Special Vehicles (Australia) & ex Brabham Formula 1 race team so he has the ability to build very high performance handbuilt motors so very complicated technical solutions don't scare us, we just want to save some time & possbly learn from other ppls knowlege & experience & maybe mistakes.

More details & specs are available if anyone wants them, but for now I'll sit back with a beer & see what feedback this post brings.

Thanks guys

David
