I have four 427 motors at this time, two in a 38' Chris Craft, and two fully marinized Chris Craft motors that were actually sold to Hatteras Yachts, for use in their boats. Interesting that Hatteras would have a Chris Craft motor, but that is exactly what they did back when. Chris was big enough to have their own spec and own manifolds, cooling systems, etc., and Hatteras, being a smaller volume producer took advantage of the technology.
On the 1966 Chris in the water I find numbers that suggest the motor was built in 1965. On the two take out motors I have as spares (not for sale) I can not fine ANY identification numbers anywhere. Beleive me, I've looked with a flashlight, and it's easy because they're on dollys in the shop.
I am wondering if those motors might have been from a "service block" situation, or maybe they were even replaced and back-fitted with all the marine stuff. Don't know.
Sorry I couldn't be of help, but I do know there is a lot of changes that happened on the assembly floor that didn't make it to Steve Christ's book
regards,
P
