I have a 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible that I recently purchased. Car was in storage for a while but started at least once a week. It seemed to start like butter each time. When I bought it I drove it 35 miles home, drove it around a little and then it would not start like the battery was dead. I thought maybe the generator was not charging and I had just driven it long enough to drain the battery. Got a jump and it turned over slow but started and I took her home. Once home, she refused to start again. No problem, Just hook up the battery charger over night, right?
Wrong. In the AM, battery fully charged, car will barely turn over. Lights look bright until I hit the starter then they dim to nothing just about. Still turning over slow as heck. OK, maybe the battery is weak. Hook up charger, same but now terminals to the selenoid are hot and smoke a little while hitting the key to start. But it's still acting like it has a weak battery and turning over VERY slowly then stops. I jump the car off with my other car and with two batteries and the charger, still turns over just as slow and won't start but not the ground cable starts to smoke the grease off of it where the battery cable grounds to the block. MAN this thing is creating some resistance.
So, what so I have going on here?
