390FE turns out to be 410FE in '68 Mustang

Tore down my Dad's FE out of his '68 Mustang, took the block and crank to the machine shop, long story short the engine turned out to be a 410FE. My Dad bought this particular Mustang about 20 years ago, and the owner claimed that everything was original except the carb. I did a little research, and it appears this Mustang was built around the time Ford had just resolved a big strike. Apparently parts were short, so Ford built cars with any parts they had laying around. Is it possible that this car actually came with a 410 instead of a 390?

Are the stock rods out of a 410 pretty strong, or should we look at getting some new rods? We are planning on upping the horsepower a bit.
