I am perparing to write a fan fiction piece on Rat Patrol, which is set in North Africa during World War II. The victim will be a member of the LRDG (Long Range Desert Group). These men traveled deep behind German lines to carry out missions to disrupt the Nazi war machine.
Medical supplies will be limited to what the men could carry in a medic bag. Water will be rationed. The heat index during the day can reach 120 degrees, and at noon up to 130 degrees. Nights have a temperature range around 60 degress.
Black flies are a constant bother, coating any open wound, the moist parts of the body and invade all opened food or water containers. The sand is like powder and invades any opening, often partialy fill cups, and causing machinery to fail. Water holes are often poisened or fouled by animal droppings.
Scorpins inhabit the rocky araes, and are often active at night when the men are able to work due to cooler temperatures.
