One person has died in hospital in the shooting rampage at a downtown Montreal college Wednesday that also left the gunman dead and 19 others injured.

One woman died in hospital from wounds sustained during the attack, officials confirmed.
"We heard that probably one of the three that had been transported to the [Montreal] General [Hospital] died later on," said André Champagne, a spokesman with Urgences Santé, the city's ambulance service.
Hospital officials said the other two critical patients were undergoing emergency surgery late Wednesday.
Three other victims were taken to Jean Talon Hospital and others were transported to the Jewish General Hospital.
The lone gunman was shot dead by police minutes after he opened fire on the student body at Dawson College, a CEGEP serving about 10,000 students near the Old Forum in Montreal.
The suspect reportedly walked into Dawson College around 12:41 p.m. ET and began firing at students in the cafeteria. Police arrived three minutes later.
"They saw a suspect shooting inside the walls of Dawson," police Chief Yves Delorme told a news conference. "So the first policeman took charge of the situation, and shot in the direction of the suspect, and the suspect died."
Television images showed police officers dragging a bloody body out of the main doors of the building, leaving a trail of blood on the street.
Earlier reports had said as many as three shooters walked into Dawson College. At one point, police had told local media outlets that two gunmen were dead and a third was still at large.
Montreal police said they now believe only one suspect was involved in the shooting rampage that terrorized the college students and staff.
Police said the motive for the shootings is unknown.
"There is no racist connotation or no terrorist link as far as we know," Delorme said.
'I thought this was fake'
Students inside Dawson College told reporters they heard several shots in the building just after lunchtime.
Eyewitnesses say they saw a tall skinny man, wearing a black trench coat and a Mohawk haircut, walk into the cafeteria carrying a large gun. He apparently fired several shots.
Student Michel Boyer sought shelter behind a reception desk after seeing a gunman and fleeing from the vicinity of the shootings.
"I thought this was fake, and it was just an excuse to get out of class," he told CBC Newsworld. "I did run away as soon as I did see that it was real."
His voice shaking, he added, "It was the most scary thing that has ever happened to me."

"I'm only 19 and to have flashes of your life and the people that you love going by you, it should not be allowed."
Arielle Reid, an office co-ordinator in the Dawson College students' association, said she was in her office when the shooting began.
"I heard the shots and a student ran into my office," the Dawson College graduate told CBC Newsworld. "People don't know what is going on and they don't know what to do."
Students flee building
Hundreds of students fled the building, and the area was cordoned off. Police officers wearing bulletproof vests kept people away from the college. People were seen running down the streets, crying and talking on their cellphones.
"They're telling me, 'Go the other way, lady, you're in the line of fire,'" said CBC News reporter Nancy Wood at the scene.
Hundreds of officers surrounded the building in downtown Montreal, cordoning off a park facing the school, as well as the Alexis Nihon Plaza, a nearby shopping centre.
Police have finished combing the college floor by floor and room by room to secure the building, more than three hours after the first shots were heard. They've set up a security perimeter that spans Atwater, Sherbrooke and Maisonneuve streets.
Public transit officials temporarily closed the subway system's green line, which serves Dawson College, in order to allow a SWAT team to sweep the underground stations. They reopened the line three hours after the shooting, although the Atwater stop, which serves the college, remained closed Wednesday night.

The shooting raised chilling memories of Dec. 6, 1989, when 25-year-old Marc Lepine gunned down 14 women at Montreal's École Polytechnique before fatally shooting himself.
Lepine roamed the school for 45 minutes, shouting, "I hate feminists," as he opened fire on the female engineering students.
His use of a 30-round magazine brought immediate calls for gun control. In response, the federal government introduced a national firearms registry.
Dawson students sheltered nearby
During the Dawson College shootings, students and staff sought refuge at nearby Concordia University.
The university's student union is running an emergency centre at the D.B Clarke auditorium at 1455 de Maisonneuve St. W., where psychologists are on hand to assist Dawson students and staff.
Medical workers with a local CLSC health clinic are also at Concordia to provide advice and support to people fleeing the shooting scene.
Students and staff will be in shock and will experience symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder, one worker told Radio-Canada's French television network. It's crucial that they talk about their experience and express their emotions, she said Wednesday.

One person has died after a shooting rampage at a Montreal college Wednesday, with the suspected gunman a 25-year-old Quebec man who also died.

Police Chief Yvan Delorme told RDI television that a woman in her twenties had died.
Lieut. François Doré of Sûreté de Québec told CBC News the man was born in Quebec and lived in the Montreal area, but his identity is being withheld. An autopsy will be performed on him as soon as possible, he said.
Doré said the suspected shooter's car and residence would be part of the initial stages of the investigation, with police hoping to learn more about his history, and possibly, an apparent motive.
"There is no racist connotation or no terrorist link as far as we know," Delorme said.
The gunman died minutes after he opened fire on the student body at Dawson, a CEGEP serving about 10,000 students near the storied Montreal Forum.
While it was reported earlier in the day that police fatally shot the man, Doré backed off somewhat from that conclusion.
"We know that shots were fired, both by this man and the police," he said. "We know that he suffered multiple injuries and we will know during the autopsy, hopefully, what exactly are the shots or shot that killed him."
The Quebec provincial police are investigating the gunman's death, as is required by law for any fatal incident involving a police officer.
Montreal General Hospital chief of clinical operations Ann Lynch said eight patients from the school were in critical condition, with six requiring surgery.
"The nature of the injuries are all gunshot wounds to the abdomen, to the chest, one head injury and also several to the limbs, peripheral limbs, arms and legs," said Lynch.
The hospital said it would not issue a further statement on the victims' conditions until early Thursday.
Three other victims were taken to Jean Talon Hospital and two others were transported to the Jewish General Hospital.
The victims included women and men, officials said.

MONTREAL (AP) - A man with a black trench coat whose shooting rampage in a Montreal college killed one person and wounded 19 others before he was slain by police said on a blog in his name that he liked to play a role-playing Internet game about the Columbine shootings.
The gunman who opened fire at Dawson College on Wednesday was Kimveer Gill, 25, of Laval, near Montreal, a police official said Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity because authorities were not ready to announce it publicly yet.
Six victims remained in critical condition, including two in extremely critical condition.
The official said police had searched Gill's home.

In postings on a Web site called VampireFreaks.com, blogs in Gill's name show more than 50 photos depicting the young man in various poses holding a rifle and donning a long black trench coat and combat boots.
One photo has a tombstone with his name printed on it - below it the phrase: "Lived fast died young. Left a mangled corpse."
The last of six journal entries Wednesday was posted at 10:41 a.m, about two hours before the gunmen was shot to death at Dawson.
He said on the site that he was drinking whiskey in the morning and described his mood the night before as "crazy" and "postal."
He said on the site that he liked to play "Super Columbine Massacre," an Internet-based computer game that simulates the April 20, 1999, shootings at the Colorado high school by two of its students that left 13 people dead.

"His name is Trench. you will come to know him as the Angel of Death," he wrote on his vampirefreaks.com profile. "He is not a people person."
He wrote that he hates jocks, preppies, country music and hip-hop.
"Work sucks ... school sucks ... life sucks ... what else can I say? ... Life is a video game you've got to die sometime."
Below a picture of Gill aiming the barrel of a gun at the camera there's the inscription: "I think I have an obsession with guns ... muahahaha."
"Anger and hatred simmers within me," said another caption below a picture of Gill grimacing.

He wrote that he is 6-foot-1, was born in Montreal and is of Indian heritage. He said his weakness is laziness and that he fears nothing. Responding to the question, "How do you want to die?" Gill replied "like Romeo and Juliet - or in a hail of gunfire."
Gill wore a black trench coat during the shooting and opened fire in the cafeteria just as Columbine students Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris did in 1999. Gill also maintained an online blog, similar to Klebold and Harris, devoted to gothic culture, heavy metal music such as Marilyn Manson, guns and journal entries expressing hatred against authority figures and "society."
A phone call to the home of Gill's family was answered by a woman said she heard about it through the media late Wednesday night. Police showed up shortly after,
A neighbor who lives across the street from the home said Gill was a loner.
"There were never any friends," Louise Leykauf said. "He kept to himself. He always wore dark clothing."

Montreal Police Chief Yvan Delorme said the lessons learned from other mass shootings had taught police to try to stop such assaults as quickly as possible.
"Before our technique was to establish a perimeter around the place and wait for the SWAT team. Now the first police officers go right inside. The way they acted saved lives," he said.
Witnesses said Gill started shooting outside the college, then entered the second-floor cafeteria and opened fire without uttering a word. At times, he hid behind vending machines before emerging to take aim - at one point at a teenager who tried to photograph him with his cell phone.
Police dismissed suggestions that terrorism played a role in the lunch-hour attack.
The gunman opened fire haphazardly at no target in particular, until he saw the police and took aim at them, Delorme said.
Police hid behind a wall as they exchanged fire with the gunman, whose back was against a vending machine, said student Andrea Barone, who was in the cafeteria. He said the officers proceeded cautiously because many students were trapped around the assailant, who yelled "Get back! Get back!" every time an officer tried to move closer.
Eventually, Barone said, the gunman went down in a hail of gunfire.
Delorme said some officers were at the school on an unrelated matter when the shooting erupted. He said reinforcements rushed to the scene and took part in the shooting.
Scores of students fled into the streets after the shooting began. Some had clothes stained with blood; others cried and clung to each other. Two nearby shopping centers and a daycare center also were evacuated and subway service was disrupted.
"I was terrified. The guy was shooting at people randomly. He didn't care, he was just shooting at everybody," said student Devansh Smri Vastava. "There were cops firing. It was so crazy."
Police said the attacker had a rapid-fire rifle and two other weapons. They did not provide details.
Although police initially suggested the gunman had killed himself, Delorme later said at a news conference that "based on current information, the suspect was killed by police."
"Today we have witnessed a cowardly and senseless act of violence unfold at Montreal's Dawson College," Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said. "Our primary concern right now is to ensure the safety and recovery of all those who were injured during this tragedy."
The school was closed until Monday.
Canada's worst mass shooting took place in Montreal when gunman Marc Lepine, 25, killed 14 women at the Ecole Polytechnic on Dec. 6, 1989, before shooting himself.
That shooting spurred efforts for new gun laws achieved mainly as the results of efforts by survivors and relatives of Lepine's victims.
Dawson, with about 10,000 students, was the first English-language institution in Quebec's network of university preparatory colleges when it was founded in 1969.

Because our resident bozo (no pun intended) thought he was being a real keener and making the topic "WHITE TERRORIST", then I showed him the error of his ways in that the guy was actually Indian, and instead of being a man and making the change, we all pretty much had to pounce on him, making him change it in a hail of insults. Oh come on we must give Bozo encourgement, he actually wrote a couple of coherent sentences (in his exchange with Banner man) a day or so again that did not include the words X-Box or gay.
Of course if Bannerman challenges any of Bozo's assertions he will become a "gay x-box warrior" (or maybe even attain the rank of old used car salesman...he can always dream).
