Russia lays down the fourth Borei next year
28.04.2008 16:26

This news came from the Commander of the Russian Navy himself, however, he did not give the name of the ship which will be laid down at Sevmash next year. Assumingly, it will be some next “submarine duke”. (All three Boreis so far were named after Russian ancient dukes). According to the Admiral Vysotsky the name was not yet selected.

Speaking about the head sub Yuri Dolgoruky, which soon awaits sea trials the Commander said that “it would be incorrect to say that all its systems meet the requirements of today”. “No head ship even during Soviet time met completely the requirements set to the whole project. But all of them (head ships) had very big basis for further modernization. It will be done for sure. So far in the sea, we are going to check its noise level, the ability to keep in the starting corridor, maneuverability, acoustic systems and readiness of electronic systems quickly and correctly solve the tasks set. Also many other things. And from the fourth hull which will be laid down in 2009, the submarines will get new technical solutions which will work till 2040”.

The Admiral stressed that so far all problems which were mentioned in the context of the new subs and missiles were related to the poor-quality of the so called cooperation of the third and fourth levels (subcontractors of material and accessories). Bringing the missile to the level of acceptably characteristics will be finished this year, the Commander said. “It really has unique characteristics and it is important for us to get out of it all possible which was deemed by the designers. I do not care about the technical reliability of the rocket, it will be finished. The main thing is to receive those characteristics which we sought. Moreover, we already plan its further development and modernization”.

If you ignore Yuri the numbers are spreading, so at around 2020 there should be 8 keels laid down if the 1 every 3 years is kept up. Id prefer some more Severodvinsk keels to be laid down, these SSBNs with their 2 patrols last year arent doing Russia much good. What is going to replace the Akulas and the Sierras, that 1 pathetic Severodvinsk that who knows when will be finished. And now with Abhazia conflict on the doorstep the funds are going to go the RAF and the army
