Some of you may laugh, but consider that there isnt a navy in the world aside from russias that can challenge them on that lake! And thats if the russians even have a navy on that lake!

Well, one could just wait until Easyjet fly to Mongolia, call some mates, fly over with a rubber boat and challenge them.

They invented Blitzkrieg and Shock and Awe. Surrender your city or we kill you all. Do that once or twice and the next 10 cities surrender pretty damned fast.

They didn't invent the Blitz. The Blitz is something different than Shock and Awe and a spearheaded attack. Basically, without medium range communication the Blitz is not possible.

To my knowledge they had very fast horse rider communications between the various forces...and cavalry patrols...

Some reasons for their success:

-Live whole life on horseback, so they're the best riders
-3-4 horses per soldier=moving at unprecidented speeds. It was not unheard of for them to advance 100 miles in a day, so that helps for suprise attacks.
-Army better organized than opponents, good battlefield communications
-similar to the above, they just had better tactics
-All soldiers went into battle on horseback with 2 bows (which were best in world at time, better than english longbow, say) and with a sword or spear for close combat, so they are very flexible
-Most opposing armies were mostly infantry, which horse archers will always beat
-They used chinese mervenary engineers with cannons, rockets and mines when they needed to attack forts

Also, lots of their enemies were incompetent, Sultan of Carizime doesn't even mobilize army when mongols invade, the Caliph of Baghdad decides not to resist because Allah will surely intervene

Don't forget: battle hardened troops and commanders after a while. Add to that their movable cities that were used as bases, similar to an aircraft carrier.
