These pictures were taken by an anonymous soldier stationed in an undisclosed country, presumably Iraq, whose platoon of M1 Abrams tanks (exact versions unknown) was reportedly hit by seven shaped charge warheads of unknown type.

According to that soldier: "They hit three tanks and all three tanks are still being used. Plus no one was hurt in any of the attacks. The M1 series tank is the toughest land vehicle the US has. It is the only thing that can take these EFPs [Explosively Forged Projectiles] and still roll. The pics you are about to see are from a EFP that hit my platoon sergeant tank. It was seven EFPs in a 2 ft PVC pipe buried 2 ft in the ground. You can see the copper all over the tank."

If it was a seven EFP array in a 2 foot diameter casing, each individual penetrator must have been relatively small. If it were one of the big 10-12" penetrators that have been seen, it would have penetrated the Abrams no worries. There are no vehicles on this Earth that would withstand that.

I doubt the makers of the Abrams or the US Army are particularly happy to have the inside of their armour exposed either. That is one of the most closely guarded secrets going around. I reckon the dude could be in a bit of trouble if they find him.

Id have to disagree with you Apex, if a hull flips the shock on the crew inside could easily kill a man, everything from internal bleeding to an aneurysm. Even when they are strapped in, a IED with enough g-force can essentially kill the crew inside without destroying the tank.

Its the civilians that get hit in the blas with no pretection. Some of thous bangs would clearly kill more civilians then US Troops. The people planting them are commiting murder pure and simple.

I totally agree with you, the human body is fragile and shockwave from such powerful blasts, that throws a 70 ton tank 10ft up in the most definately have devastating effects on the body and the internal organs and blood vessels.

An aneurism by definition is a preexisting pathological condition were a section of an arterial vessel is dilated and bulged outwards in a bubble shape, thinning(weakening) its walls and compromising vessel integrity making it easier to burst following light trauma, elevated blood pressure or even spontaneously. There are many causes for aneurisms such as hypertension, genetic, infectious, trauma ,congenital, toxins and enviromental etc.

The definition you are looking for is haemorage

You have to consider what part of Iraq the British forces are in, the Basrah and the Sunni Triangle are two completely different areas.. The UK wouldn't be willing to move in the sort of manpower it takes to pin down the area of operations that the US forces are in.

The British area is mostly Shiite who are a bit happier than the majority Sunnis in the US area who used to hold all the power. Middle Eastern tribalism is intense in Iraq.

wrong, one challenger was penetrated by RPG-29, one of the crewmen lost a foot. RPG-29 will penetrate just about any tank around.

Tanks may get penetrated due to a lucky RPG shot. How many tanks get downed by a single RPG? The few tanks that were total losses were due IEDs. And large IEDs(the ones that can kill tanks)while infamously destructive are not easy to carry around and install.

Anyhow, the conflicts in the middle east have rewritten tank warfare. Practically all current tanks have continuity upgrades in the form of thicker side-skirts, bottom and top armour. In addition, active protection systems will become very common. You should see how the Trophy killed off 4 projectiles coming at it simultaneously. IEDs will continue to be a problem however. But there are tactical and practical issues in installing IEDs as well. You cant lug it around and use them when you want to use them like an ATGM.

If that is the case all M1 should be upgareded to TUSK

Well i said it before, i say it again... 90% of all soldiers died from IED attack have broken necks or backs... if you think a kick can break someones neck... think what an IED will do to you head....

Are the tanks infantry support teams on holiday?.....what tank besides being engaged in a meeting engagement against other tanks will be with out infantry support?, Terry tried that many times against coalition armour, the support teams cleared and killed most if not all of said RPG teams 9it's a part of the reason they prefer IED's now), and no these were not incompetent's these were guy's with experience including aganist the Soviets in the 80's

a well trained,expirence tank/infantry team will deal with those threats.
