capable of penetrating armor up to 1200mm thick this is the latest Abrahms killer from the good people a the Bazalt arms company. The launcher and missile combined weigh just 12kg's. Maximium range is 300 meters. The round is 125mm in calibre and 20% more effective than the previous RPG-29 line.
If the tank has ERA the round will penetrate 900mm of RHA AFTER it rips through the ERA. No tank currently in service can survive a hit from this bad boy.
Since it is a 125mm round there is also a good chance that a gun launched version is in the works IMHO, but the article does not say this. |

Most modern western tanks have a frontal Hull armor of 1000mm+ and 1600+ mm in the frontal turret. Combine that with ERA and the RPG-28 has a small chance of penetrating. Indeed, even if it hits the tank flanks, it might not penetrate if it doesnt hit at a 90% angle. |

Like I always say, a trained RPG team will own any tank in a 1 on 1 engagement. Although from that small picture it looks like it weighs a ton, RPG-7 was a truly portable system that came under 10 kilos when ready to fire. RPG-29 not only weighs close to 19 kilos when ready to fire, but you also have to drag it in 2 pieces. Im betting with the round the RPG-28 will come in at 20+ kilos, to balance and fire accurately from a shoulder might be a challenge for anyone under 6'. --------------------------------------------

where are you getting this 1600mm # from? Challenger, Merkava and Abrahms have all been RPG-29 with no problem. |

I love how desperate our Russians friends are in trying to one-up the Americans by claiming all their weapons to be "Abram Killers," "US Aircraft Carriers Killers," and the likes. US should start coining the term "Russian Mig Killers" or "Killers of Sukhois" just to illustrate how annoying all this mindless bravado is. |

funny you should say that, but US tankers were told told going into Iraq back in 2003 that the Kornet could penetrate the M1 at any point of its armor.
There were 22 penetrations among the 50 or so tanks hit in Lebanon. These 22 penetrations resulted in 23 KIA's. 18 of the 50 or so tanks hit were actually Merkava IV's. 10 of these 18 were written off and only 8 were serviceable and probably half these penetrations were by Konkurs or older missiles.
Mind you that Israel only deployed about 200 tanks in total, so the Hezi animals managed to penetrate 10% of all the tanks in just 30 days. Imagine a war that goes for 10 months....

@Fillin
it is lighter than the RPG-29 and some 20% more powerful. It only weights 12kg's. Improvements in material science really are amazing. |

12kg ready to fire? Thats quite amazing for a 125mm launcher, if you ever held an RPG-7 its easy to realize how light it really is, especially when its less than twice the weight of an AK. RPG-7 also had very easy sights to use, someone who fired the RPG-29 told me the sights on it every actually worse, hopefully Bazalt listens to the soldiers. --------------------------------------------
