Seoul spends a billion dollars for the purchase of Russian helicopters

South Korea intends to speed up procurement in Russia deck 32 Ka-32 helicopters to equip the landing ships project Dokdo national navy. As reported by The Hankyoreh, Seoul decided on an emergency programme adoption of new helicopters associated with scheduled for Washington in 2012 transfer of operational control functions the South Korean army in wartime conditions.

The Government of South Korea has decided to allocate to purchase Russian helicopters, 930 billion won (894 million dollars) to be laid in the country's defence budget for the years 2009-2013. Поставка техники ожидается в период с 2013 по 2018 год. Delivery of equipment is expected in the period from 2013 to 2018 year.

Helicopters Ka-32 helicopter planned to use for Marines to the rear of a potential enemy. At the moment the South Korean morpehi not have armed with aviation technology and may carry out such operations only with the use of army aviation helicopters.

However, representatives of the armed forces and defense industry of South Korea oppose the planned purchase of Ka-32, which, in their view, could negatively affect the implementation of the programmes of national development and manufacture of military helicopters. As another argument appears possible cost increases due to the need to refine Russian helicopters, which were originally created for use for civilian purposes.

Recall that earlier Ka-32 military aircraft were delivered to Russia to South Korea.

This helicopter demands a lot of maintenance. I think this is wrong, SK should have selected another helicopter.

Hankyureh is crap.

That said, they're mistaken on this, and both DAPA and Defense Ministry were quick to deny. No plans to buy Ka-32 has marine assault helicopter.

Air Force operates couple with Israeli avionics as SAR birds, the rest are Forest and Wildlife Ministry's fire observation/control helicopters.

The mechanical complexity of the rotor hub's doesn't offset the advantages of the co-ax design.

Especially because the Russians have been doing it for so long, they must have learnt how it's done rather well.

That being said, any helicopter is a pain to maintain.
