Basically our Indian friends were a little pissy about Russia not wanting to field the missiles in our navy, so than our side said fine, but we will only field it on 1 vessel that has the appropriate VLS, which is the Gorshkov. With this only 6 rockets may fit, instead of 8 Yakhonts, Im also hopping there will be 2 VLS systems for a total of at least 12 Brahmos. They added that they wont put it on any older subs, and most likely Severodvinsk will stick with Yakhonts.

Gorshkov will set sail in '09 or at latest '10.

^ Its made out of a joint venture. The RN favors the yakhont over the BrahMos since the yakhont is 100% developed in-house and the profits are kept within Russia.

The yakhont and the brahmos are virtually identical missiles with the Brahmos featuring modified guidance systems. In any case, they're something Pakistan can never get...must hurt eh? Having to play around with crap while your neighbor buys brand new stuff every week? Must make you feel like the trailer trash that you actually are..oops.

^^

don't get too excited there, now why would Pakistan would want to get Brahmos, it already have land launched of nuclear capable Babur cruise missile of range 700km and an air launched version Raad missile with 350km range and i don't think its a good idea to boast on purchases rather you should concentrate on indigenous technology development.

lol, Pakis must be out of their mind to compare a sh1t missile like raad with the supersonic Brahmos, the subsonic raad cant even hit a moving ship...

There's a lot of 'may' and 'in the future' but there is not much 'is currently capable' with the Russians.

The Russians have good ideas but they rarely follow up on them.

What are you talking about? Brahmos and Yakhont have been in service for years...

GONGRATULATIONS!!! For the national team of Russia. I wish te BEST!!

I've told you many times that Brahmos is more capable tan Yakont. Why Indians improved Onyx, and not import the original Onyx from Russia? Because Onyx need improving, thats why.
Brahmos has 300kg warhead and also land attack capability, Onyx has 200kg warhead and not land attack capability. Indians plans to extend the range of Brahmos into 1000km range as Brahmos II. At the same time no one subsonic or supersonic (Onyx, 3M54/541/3M14)has range longer than 280km. The navy needs a cruise missile like the French SCALP NAVALE.

I dont think you understand, our navy didnt want Brahmos because its not as good as Yakhont, you can fit fewer of them and there are fewer profits. The seekers on Yakhonts were from a new generation that Russia didnt export to anyone, range and payload are only part of the equation, Yakhont is almost impossible to hit with a missile defense system. Indians pressured Russia because they would get a good chunk of the revenue.

If Yakhont is better than Brahmoc, then why Indians didn't asked ROSOVORONEXPORT to export the Onyx missile to them? Indians prefered to update the basik Onyx in larger and more capable missile. What are the differences between Yakhont and Brahmos? As I know Brahmos tested many times against sea and land targes, but I didt hear anything about Yakhont testings. Is able a single Yakhont to sing a vessel of Burge DDG size? Also do you know when and if a second Gorshkov frigate start builting?

Its the same reason why they asked for partnership on the PAK-FA despite the original fighter being more advanced, I just dont think Russia was willing to sell as well as learning how to do it for themselves. Look at the Paki raad missile, it has a bigger warhead and longer range but its a far worse missile as it cant even hit a moving ship. Yakhont has seekers that would probably stand up better to jamming, Yakhont is also longer and therefore is probably less dense which would allow for lower flight to the ground. We still know less about the Yakhont than we do about the Brahmos. I doubt one missile could sink the Burke, but a volley of 6-12 could probably do it. Second Gorshkov is at least a year away, I think they want to see how the first ship turns out in order to make any changed to the design.
