30,000 troops reportedly heading to Iraq in 2009

Last Update: 8:00 pm

U.S. Soldiers (Chris Hondros, Getty Images) WASHINGTON (AP) - The Associated Press has learned that the Pentagon is preparing to send roughly 30,000 troops to Iraq early next year.

The move would replace troops in Iraq and allow the U.S. to maintain 15 combat brigades in the country through 2009.

That change, however, depends on whether Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, decides in the fall to further reduce troop levels in Iraq.

Several officials familiar with the deployments spoke on condition of anonymity because the orders have not yet been made public.

Pakistan Airforce: The largest distributor of Indian airforce parts in Asia

Pathankot Strike
8 F-86Fs of No 19 Squadron led by Squadron Leader Sajjad Haider struck Pathankot airfield. With carefully positioned dives and selecting each individual aircraft in their protected pens for their strafing attacks, the strike elements completed a textbook operation against Pathankot. Wing Commander M G Tawab, flying one of the two Sabres as tied escorts overhead, counted 14 wrecks burning on the airfield. Among the aircraft destroyed on the ground were nearly all of the IAFs Soviet-supplied Mig-21s till then received, none of which were seen again during the War.

If you were smart you would realise that these are not extra troops - they are just replacing US troops already in Iraq. At the end of the year there will be 15 brigades in Iraq, down from a high of 20 during the surge. This 30 000 will simply replace current soldiers and maintain that 15 brigades in Iraq. However, due to the massive improvement in security in Iraq lately, I reckon that number of combat brigades will drop down to 12 or so, on the advice of GEN Petraous. By the end of next year I bet there will only be 8 or so Brigades left, as the ISF takes over the vast majority of security tasks.

IMO, the Iraq war is not far away from being 'won'.

Yes, Prado, won. I know as a Pakistani you don't have any experience winning wars, but, yes, they can be won. Y'all might want to try it sometime.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Prado was paranoid tat 30,000 US troops will cause mayhem all over Iraq, now look at him. He's pretendin tat the US is loosin. Bloody sucker.

Can't wait another latest series of arsewhooping toward those average crackers, including insignificant crybaby like you, Mr. Gaz. How many time every adult and sane people adviced you to cut and run since it had been juggernaut for your life in the future.

Nobody - including some senile demented X-BOX 360 freaks - can imagine the result that the war will be won by releasing "vacuum"-headed AGM-114 Hellfire ATGW; in fact this will create a MASSIVE GLOBAL JIHAD if you "Western" kids hellbent on it. Now go back to your house and tell your parents that Uncle Bozorgh rapes your anal...

@nsdap_id,

So you admit radical Islamics have sex with anything but their legal wives, only goats, camels, little boys and underage girls.

Thats good, admitting you're f***ed up is step one.

If only you were brave enough to fight something other than the internet war.

@Sarge, I agree, I believe we have stumbled onto the end of the Iraq War, it is easily within reach as the Iraqi government has been taking control of security operations in the majority of the 18 provinces. Preparations are already being made for our future presence in the country.

Who honestly would have thought that Iraq would have been over before the war in A-stan would be?

I am just joking to Gaz, but shamefully your reply to me showed that you were even worse intellectually than stupidest average cracker in Alabama. You another insignificant crybaby unable to stand the heat created by pathetic Texas macaca-in-chief who sacrificed you even blind man like Ivan Castro for the love of Zionist and oil. Sometimes I should hard against teenagers like you who spouted nothing but Hollywood fantasy/thrill-seeking gay teenagers in WAFF who wanted to grow into G.I. Joe wannabe and whacked 1000 enemies.

Impressive array of smilies you displayed. A veritable human wave of smilies. Nice.

Still not enough to change the fact that the deployment of 30,000 US soldiers is anything other than business as usual for my beloved Army. You can call the Soldiers that will dominate you whatever you want from behind your computer screen. My savage mooj friend.
