As much as I hate the West, I can't imagine a better world leader then America for all.

China is acting like 19th century Britain (imperialist and thinking of only itself).

Europe is the causes of most problems in the world to begin with.

Neither imperial Russia nor cold war "tolerant to the non-western world" Russia survived. So nothing seems to be doing it for Russia.

It's human nature to resent the top dog. When China was poor and weak militarily, the world held a somewhat positive opinion of China; as a matter of fact, China was held in higher esteem than the U.S.A..

Now, that China is fast becoming the world's number one nation, world opinion about China is changing for the negative. Ironically, China is the same country...it's just that her status has changed.

I think that this reality says something about humanity in general.

Being the no 1 world power in the 18th & 19th Century means the UK is still disliked to this day, by more people than anyone else, except the USA.

Of course even if China takes over as the world's number 1 superpower, and its not certain, America will still be strong enough to stand upto it.

Not true. China is not the same country.

China wasn't taking sides in African conflicts 2 decades ago. It also wasn't demanding more rights for it's nationals in Western countries. It also wasn't consuming so much of the world resources. It also wasn't messing up the world economy with it's un-liberal methods.

I like China and enjoy its rising but I wish it didn't turn so imperialist.

The resentment on the US wasn¡¦t toward its superpower status, it was for its KKK-like haughtiness.

Imagine a quarter of a billion Dutch people and the Netherlands being the world's superpower... then I think with the USA we're quite alright.

As for human nature to resent the top dog, I have actually no resentments at all towards the USA. Not that I appreciate everything there. But being critical doesn't equal resentment.

Resentment doesn't necessarily have to do with "top dog" status. Take a football or hockey team for instance. The team captain is usually looked up to for his skill and leadership. He is not resented for his position.

If that captain starts doing questionable things that are not in the best interests of the team, then there will be some resentment, but it won't be directly related to his status as top member, but at the fact that he/she is using his top member status to get away with questionable activities.

I for one can't think of any other nation being the leader besides the US. They, for the most part, hold the same values and interests as I and my country do. I do however, resent their current administration for obvious reasons, but the country itself and what it stands for, and what it has created in a short time is nothing short of amazing, and something to be looked up to.

Fortunately, bad administrations come and go, and this one is on the way out soon.

the problem is that china took the middle ground (50's-70's)with soviet style autonomous regions loosely based on qing dynasty banners and other ethnic seperating systems or with regard to internal cultural differences during the qing where it was at a disadvantage to the practice of divide and conquer, it was at odds with the norms of the europeans at the time(1800's-1900's).. where as the europeans and the US crushed all separatists and where the they would keep control at all times and the result of today that the non-white or aboriginal minorities are so culturally destroyed that the only culture that remain was the white settlers culture so thus the community was united with one dominating culture... it is uncertain if china would even have any goals of being a superpower in the western sense of the word, how china is viewed as imperialistic at it current stage is odd to me, you need to define the ways china is "imperialistic" because currently the only thing I see from china that might be near anything "imperialistic" would on the way it searches for resources and markets, but that could also be seen as capitalism

No it's not good. Nations are like people, if one has too much power it becomes overly corrupt, belligerent, unlawful, aggressive and tyrannical towards other nations, playing fast and loose with the international laws, breaking them whenever they deem necessary and with NO penalty for doing so for obvious reason.


The world needs a resurgent Russia to get back to superpower status in order to keep balance in the world. I don't think that China will be involved in keeping balance because eventually they will step out of line and get smashed by the U.S...........or Russia.......or the 2 combined. Japan is getting stronger too btw, they'll be able to take care of themselves very soon and acting as a partial counter-balance to China in the region. Yes I know that they are 1/10 the population of China but that has never made a difference throughout history, they've usually stomped the yello-skinned chinese mongoloids across from them with little problem.

Historicaly a Countrys population played a big role in its power status.But nowdays its less so.
For example,Japan has 1/10th the population of China,but it is far superior in Technology!
Then if you arm Japan with Nukes you have a perfect countrabalance to China since a mutual destuction is assured.

China at the present stage is still a developing country, with average income for only 2xxx dollars each year, there is still a long way to go to be able to benefit all the world.

People are talking like a population of 140 million is somehow "small", lets be serious, there are 120 million ethnic Orthodox Russians living inside of Russia today. Putin has formed a great deal of unity in his term, something which lacks in China. Problem with 1.3 billion people is its just too large to control, the group looses its sense of identity and is left with factions fighting each other.

Today you get $13k for each child after your first one in Russia, its nothing in Moscow but there are "only" 10 million people in Moscow. For the 130 million who live outside the capital its a nice chunk of change, couple that with optimism and I see 1-2% population growth in 2 decades from now.

The strenth of Europe is diversity. Diversity makes a lot of little problems to deal with but avoid BIG problem (ask the dinosaurus...)

It's very well like this, each european country play in his field, and each success is a success for the whole.

The only mistake is to avoid in the future is to pull rivalities up to self-destruction wars as we did.
Because on a historical perspective Europe just begin to recover a bit from the two WW. You need one century at least to recover such a level of self-destruction (European skill at its best here too )
