NEW DELHI - The Indian Army has floated a request for information to integrate an air-conditioning system along with additional power sources in its fleet of Russian-made T-90 tanks, which have had difficulties when operating in desert conditions of temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius
An Indian Army official said that some of the tanks' computerized systems failed in summer desert heat.
India purchased the T-90 tank from Russia in 2001 as the homegrown Arjun tank did not meet Army expectations while Pakistan had acquired T-80 tanks from Ukraine.
Under the $795 million deal, 310 T-90 tanks were procured from Russia. In 2007, the Indian Army gave a fresh order to buy an additional 330 T-90s and there are plans to license produce another 1,000 by 2020 at Indian facilities. http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=3629734&c=EUR&s=TOP

@Maverik. You dont seem very smart so i shall explain the new indian def Pocurment policy.
The Deals can be on 2 basis. Govt to Govt or Govt with Company. If its Govt to Govt (Say america) then there is no need for a tender. However if its Govt to Company and the Pocurement amount is above a certain limit then a TENDER HAS to be issued before buying the product.
Now in this case an RFI has been issued for AC's to be Installed in what will be over 1000+ T-90S/M tanks. Indian Companies will also take part in the tender as will any other foriegn company that answers the tender. Then the winner is chosen.
So just because RFI is issed that does not mean that we cant make ACs. Both TANK-EX and Arjun are currently testing DRDO made ACs.

And who said the T-90 is junk. It is having teething problems that will eventually get rectified. Its still anyday hands down superior to whatever Pakistan fields..
Talking about Junk. Wonder why production of the superdooper Alkhalid was stopped at 350 to develop a mysterios Al-khalid II. Ironically all 350 AKs are probably noteven 100% operational yet.

oh btw. A recent DRDO news bulletin stated that the Army had commisioned it to Install the Arjun BMS into the T-90S. However the T-90S FCS and Ballistic Computer goes crazy in the Rajesthan Desert heat. The AirCond is for making the electronics.
The Advantages to the Tank Crews ofcourse is just an Afterthought..lol. India also is planning an upmotored engine for the T-90S. Also SHotra and ARENA are both undergoing tests. The Army will choose based on the outcome. Previously the First Gen Shotra failed miserably in Army Testing. The Russians have come back with an improved product.
And now apparently the Reflecks Missle's teething problems are also being sorted out.

Pathankot Strike
8 F-86Fs of No 19 Squadron led by Squadron Leader Sajjad Haider struck Pathankot airfield. With carefully positioned dives and selecting each individual aircraft in their protected pens for their strafing attacks, the strike elements completed a textbook operation against Pathankot. Wing Commander M G Tawab, flying one of the two Sabres as tied escorts overhead, counted 14 wrecks burning on the airfield. Among the aircraft destroyed on the ground were nearly all of the IAFs Soviet-supplied Mig-21s till then received, none of which were seen again during the War.

Gandhiji's Talisman:
I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny ? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj (i.e. self-rule) for the hungry and spiritually starving millions ?
Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
