The Typhoon is really a HUGE submarine!

BTW, I believe the Ohio-class carries more destructive power (or was it more missiles?).

Mobile airpower

More missiles, but Typhoon was built for super long endurance under the arctic ice. It has saunas, lots of living space and even a pool I believe.

Typhoon has torpedo launched cruise missiles as well, and a crap load of torpedoes. Its sometimes hard to understand how big it really is, that Delta by it packs 16 SLBMs.

In fact, I don¡¦t believe the Typhoon is really big, because of its 3x hulls armors. It is 3 submarine hulls dubbed together to make one sub. It also has to carry about 70+ tons food, big SLBMs, and the said cruise missiles and torpedoes. So these make its free spaces small.

I heard the Typhoon class had the sea endurance for 1 year. This is the difference between it and the Delta class.

Hey, I heard the Boris class SSBNs are intended to replace the Typhoons. So is the Boris another SSBN as big as Typhoon, or it is just another improved Delta?

Btw, nice picture:

But only 4 chairs? I think blue soft benches are needed. And a big LCD screen playing the sea waves, sun rises, sun sets and seagulls flying. As well as a big long rectangle aquaria to let the crew see and feed the pet fishes. And you should add a shop. Men are commercial animals. Or is a shop not allowed on a communist submarine? jk

You know one year in a close space really require a lot of psychological relieves.

What cruise missiles? You mean those short range anti-sub subsonic missiles? They follow a ballistic trajectory maks distance (45 km for SS-N-15) before releasing a torpedo or depth bomb, would not exactly call it a cruise missile.

The Typhoon IS realy big. Actually two Delta hullsection welded together. The missiles are between those hulls. To bad only Donskoy is left (testbed for Bulava)
No the Borei is not as big as the Typhoon, more the size of a Delta.

Here is a great photo gallery of shots taken outside and inside one of the typhoons in reserve. Shots include the gym, pool, and an old russian submarine full size arcade game! Great vessels. It's a shame they are wasting away. sad.gif

It's a shame! we compare the mouse with the lion, that's the point. Its completely madness!! Typhoons have the same age with Ohios and they prefer to scapp them instead of modernizing. SS-N-20 was perfect why they retired it? Is SS-N-23 Sivena better? I don't think so.

SS-N-20's are made in Ukraine. The Ukrainian factory no longer exists. They couldnt service old missiles or get new missiles as a result. The tooling is all gone. For that reason alone the Typhoon was doomed as an SSBN.

"In real life Donskoy could probably kick Dolgorukiys ass."

Not likely!. Typhoon is considered a 3. generation sub. Dolgorukiys new sensors would detect the Donskoy first. There is no reason to doubt Dolgourkiys silencing technology and sensor capabilities compared to the Typhoon. The typhoon was not built for silence, but long endurance under ice.
I know the Donskoy has been overhauled and equipped with new sensors but she is still a generation behind.
