btw, here is a better pic. The project is sometime from late 90s, the photo was taken in a museum of the bureau. Some of its design features might have made their way to 22350, but we will have to wait and see.

Let's design a Typhoon shall we Mister Herbst?

We discussed the same issue at the past also. This site that you posted presents an old project which called project 21956. Actually this is a stealthier Udaloy fitted with some Rifs long range AAW missiles. This is a dacate old project, and is proposed ONLY as an export. Is the same thing as Krivaks, when Russia offered a stealthier and much more powerful version of Krivak to India. The funny thing is that I ve seen some photos from IDMS 2007 of a stealthy project 1124 ASW corvette model!!
The model of warship which Putin look at is a totaly new project and not a stealthy version of an older project. I noticed that this project has some small inspirations from DDG 1000 like the 155mm guns and the too large space for helicopter landing. This warship seems very large because the heli hangar is under the deck, using the "Kirov" style. Also this project is too stealthy for being 10 or more year old. Finally as for 22350 this is a 4500t frigate a litle bit larger than the previous Talwar but is a Krivak style frigate nothing more nothing less.

KARAVOGIANNOS, you are mistaken about what the 22350 is evolving into, it might only be 4500t, but it will be more than just an upgraded krivak. The 20380 turned out to be more than just some corvette, with sonar, modvedka and a heli its a great for the ASW role.
Secondly, the model that Krylov showcased was in a museum. Some claim that the model could be seen in one of Janes issues from 99-00, and it does indeed have a look of a Russian DDX. Since the model was allowed to be photographed it means that its probably a forgotten project, you know the level of secrecy they keep with most of the naval projects. But it does mean that they are still thinking big, this is certainly not a Soviet design, but a Russian one. Maybe before 2020 we will see a destroyer of this class enter VMF.

No I insist this is a totaly new project. Is not into a glass box like some other "historical" models. Filin I am a naval expert and I know the russian naval issues better than my name!! The pictures that were posted to janes from 1997 to 00 editions were not this one model. In 1996 were celebrations of the 300 years of russian navy, and Yeltsin announced the creation of a new unique vessel which called "universal ship" and looked like the russian copy of Tico/Spruance. Offcource this was only a paper study due to the lack of funds in 90s.

KARAVOGIANNOS, that ship is from the late 90s(maybe early 00s) that is fitted with as much stuff as possible. Vertical UAV launchers, a bunch of VLS, sat guided CM and helis. In any case this is just the 1st step in creating the project, even if its not dead it will be sent to a different bureau where it will be simplified in order to match the current possibilities of the Russian shipbuilding industry.

I do, it seems like an advancement of the project 11000 from the early 90s. But that doesnt really give any idea of when the Zumwalt-like destroyer was designed. What you have to remember is that the model is simply one of the 1st steps of the design process, Russian shipbuilding ability might not be able to match it, so when they go down the line the model gets a realistic touch. Since the early projects for a future American destroyer/cruiser go back to the early 90s, the model could have been an easy response in 99-00.

btw KARAVOGIANNOS, I cant figure out how much of the model is exposed in that picture. If we are to assume thats 90% of it than its hull design resembles the old Moskva carrier.

No looks more like the Zumhalt filosophy, with the large space for heli landing. If you see the DDG-1000 has also huge deck for the helicopters, maybe 40 % of its length

I am a ship modeler and I hate the DDG 1000. A future 1:350 Zumhalt would be so easy in construction like a submarine. I adore the Russian warships which are full of radars and missile tubes

russel, I already made a post Its somewhat vague, but in my opinion it implies that the boat will hit water in the coming months. (there is obviously more work to do after that)
This is maybe the most powerful project. Is an arsenal ship - rocket cruiser. It was intended to be armed with Elbrus land attack missiles. What is the elbrus, cruise missile or something like SS-1?
