Turkey has increased its requirement for Boeing CH-47F Chinook transport helicopters from 10 to 14 aircraft, with its undersecretariat for defence industries, the SSM, having added four for special forces applications, Flightglobal reported.
Turkish officials visited Boeings Philadelphia production facilities during August to test the CH-47F. A letter of request has now been issued, and a contract signature is expected by mid-2010 via the USAs Foreign Military Sales mechanism.
The Turkish army will receive 10 transports, with the remainder to be equipped with search and rescue equipment to support special forces operations.
Turkeys aircraft will receive comunication, navigation and forward-looking infrared systems manufactured by local companies including Aselsan, with Turkish Aerospace Industries to install the equipment.
Ankara launched its search for a heavy transport helicopter in 1997, but has twice cancelled the process. MILAZ

cool, +4 chinooks, we will have about 400 chopers soon (excluding UH-1s), including heavy lifters like chinooks, it translate "we can deploy 5-10k troops hundreds miles away of our borders in a few hours." am I wrong landos ? Lol.
For Turks, the homeland isn't Turkey, nor yet Turkistan. Their country is a vast, eternal land: Turan!

Wow... yet another item on the ever growing wish list. Do the tellakistanis need a reminder about when the last (cancelled) order to a US company for heavy-lift helicopter? In 2000 you ordered CH-53's from Sikorsky and then had to weasel your way out of the contract. Now you haven't even ordered the CH-47's and are creating scenarios as if they are in inventory! LOL
For those that also don't know, the Turdgays were first interested in the Patriot systems prior to the first Gulf War! Yep, that's more that 18 years ago! I could also mention that massive order (LOL) of AH-1 Cobras that also did not materialize.
In conclusion, don't believe what these middle eastern peasants say when they are creating their idiotic shopping lists. It was probably the case that some people in their military wanted a free vacation to the US, and this tour was the excuse.
PS: Can the idiotic kocek who started this thread correct the title? There has been NO order for CH-47's.
