I have tried on several occasions to get you to start editing your own posts, in a friendly non-official manner, to break the links from Yahoo to prevent horizontal scrolling. From now on I will issue warnings to you as this is a violation of WAFF rule #9.

9. Do NOT use too long, unbroken links as they tend to break the HTML tables of the forum and force visitors to scroll horizontally in order to view certain parts of a message.

Which is a shame as you do bring attention to some interesting news stories.

Thank you for your future cooperation.

OK, for us technical incompetents, could you break that down a little? IE: how do you do that. Yes, this has been explained around here in the past, but some of us are selectively dense.

Fair enough.

There are two solutions.

1. Rule 4 now states "this rule is amended...when posting articles from other sources, as long as you provide a source, you do not have to provide a link..if however, it is discovered that you intentionally have altered the article, you are subject to being warned."

Solution, don't post the link merely state the source (i.e. Yahoo News).

2. When you create the post you will be greeted with this familiar screen.

[linked image]

Note the red circle, for some bizarre reason in the edit screen the hyperlink is text wrapped, meaning that the software automatically stops at the end of the window and continues on the next line (WYSIWYG, my ass happy.gif ). However when you post you will get this...

[linked image]

Note how what was 3 lines in the edit screen is now 2 lines and note the horizontal scroll bars, this is annoying when trying to read the thread as you are constantly scrolling back and forth to read all the responses.

Solution, go in and edit your post. I normally go in and place the cursor in the second line below the semi-colon and hit enter, this fixes all Yahoo news links. As shown in this picture...

[linked image]

Which yields this...

When reading the post it looks like this...

[linked image]

You will note that the third line is not part of the hyperlink anymore (different colour) and therefore if you wish to ensure veracity of the article you need to copy and paste all three lines into the address bar on your browser.

Do you understand (I tend to assume everyone is a computer nerd)?

It doesn't work for me either, I manually type the tags in.

Thanks for the fulsome answer...

... uh, so if I get one of those really wide posts, I should edit the address by inserting a line after a semicolon that should be on the second line of the really long web address then?

If you mean hitting the enter key after the semicolon (or whatever character), then yes. Alternately you can just say where the article is from and forgo the link altogether.

Just do as I do and use the HTML anchor (aka link) tag, this is how it works:

<@ href="PLACE YOUR LINK HERE WHILE KEEPING THE DOUBLE QUOTES">source (OR ANY OTHER TEXT FOR THAT MATTER)< / @>
replace the '@' with 'a' (short for anchor) and remove the spaces in the tag (< >) part.

result:
http://www.cnn.com
source (OR ANY OTHER TEXT FOR THAT MATTER)

When I was young I used to pray for a bike, then I realized that God doesn't work that way, so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.
