Eurohawk unveiled in USA
By Alan Dron
Northrop Grumman and EADS Defence and Security have unveiled the first Eurohawk unmanned aircraft system (UAS) at Northrop Grumman's Palmdale, California facility.
Based on the Block 20 Global Hawk, Eurohawk will be equipped with a new signals intelligence (SIGINT) mission system developed by EADS. A ground station consisting of a mission control and launch and recovery elements will be provided by Northrop Grumman. EADS will also provide a SIGINT ground station, which will receive and analyse the data from Eurohawk.
The onboard systems mean that "the German Armed Forces will be able to independently cover their needs for SIGINT data collection and analysis, thus contributing to NATO, EU and UN peacekeeping operations," says Nicolas Chamussy, senior vice president of Mission Air Systems for EADS Defence and Security.
Eurohawk is due to enter service in 2011 and replace Germany's ageing pair of Dassault-Breguet Atlantic SIGINT aircraft.

I bet the Eurohawk is more expensive than the Globalhawk, capability wise probably equal plus it will only enter in service in 2011. That's not such a great deal. The Germans should have designed a UAV from scratch.
When I was young I used to pray for a bike, then I realized that God doesn't work that way, so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.

I think its a pretty good deal and a awesome platform capabilities wise.....
Can't imagine how much it would cost to develop an indigenous strategic HALE UAV (and to only be built in small numbers), not to mention that it would still enter service post 2011, more like circa 2015~2016.....

The SIGINT Eurohawk would make a good replacement for the Brits Nimrod R1 gap.....seems like they are not even considering it though (I suppose it depends on the sensor package)...

The UK MoD have this suicidal policy of supporting BAe at ALL costs, be it 100% over-run and 5 years+ late (wild guess), Nimrod is one of these programes...
