A few years ago i tried to share some information on the raise of China technologies level mainly naval, from Jane's, i had acces to a lot of books and articles at the time. (Now it's only 45 mn away).

I don't agree with your logic, by making type 03, doesn't mean it is better than the previous one type 95, they are complimented each other.

Type 03 is more advanced (much) version of type 81 which most chinese soldiers like it and also type 81 has been exported to many other countries and apparently very popular in US (for civilan). type 81 use 7.2 mm bullet while type 03 use new chinese standard 5.8 mm bullet.

type 95 is totally new concept for Chinese concept, it is a bullpup rifle, Chinese never have a bullpup rifle before. Type 03 is Type 03 is a conventional design.

Type 03 (QBZ-03) assault rifle is most recent development of Chinese state arms factories ..... For various but unpublished reasons the bullpup Type 95 / QBZ-95 assault rifle was apparently found not entirely satisfactory in PLA service ...... It was decided to develop a new 5.8mm assault rifle of conventional layout, which will provide necessary competition and backup to its older bullpup brother ....... In some respects this new weapon, known as QBZ-03 (Type 03 / 2003), is reminiscent to the experimental Type 87 rifle, which was developed in mid-1980s for testing of the new 5.8x42mm DAP-87 cartridge. It is not yet known if Type 03 rifle will enter widespread service with PLA troops to replace or complement Type 95 rifle.

I have to mention that a Chinese military delegation visited Argentina 3 years ago and offered us the Type 95 for replacement of the old FN FAL. Commandos and special troops tested a couple of weapons at the Campo de Mayo military range and they observed problems with barrel overheating. In fact after shooting three magazines in a row it was a real problem to sustain the weapon without gloves. I don't know if this problems have been presented in another tests.
