every citizen has the right to honor their past soldiers. And in the end, it is just that- paying tribute to your armed forces. leave it to a country like China to politicize it for the sake of promoting domestic nationalism and giving its citizens a common mindset to align to.

The guys who're dressing up as Japanese soldiers of WWII? I've ran into some of them on-line couple of times. Yeah, they're not really honoring the soldiers per say....they are honoring the Japanese Empire though.
Swiss Army Knives...up to a dozen tools, and the only thing you learn to use is the bottle and can opener.
It's like me, only prettier.

Looks like a bunch of well maintained ships as well...
Yes, very well. It's often hard to discern, when looking at photos, between the Japanese and U.S. Navies. Similiarity of equipment, markings, and ships is very marked. The influence of the U.S. upon the Japanese is strikinglu evident.
Its disgusting to see young fanatics wearing WWII Japanese uniforms watching the fleet review.
I guess I missed those pics, but what are you referring to?

"it seems the ships never been used .. you can see, no rust at all"
Preventative maintainence.....they take care of their ships.
Fair winds......
Dauntless sons of Celtic sires
Whose souls the love of freedom fires,
Hark! ev'ry harp to war inspires
On Cader Idris side.
See the brave advancing,
See the brave advancing,
Each well-tried spear
Which Saxons fear,
In warlike splendour glancing.
Proud Harlech from her frowning tow'rs
Pours forth her never failing pow'rs.
Rouse, heroes, glory shall be ours,
March on, your country's pride!

The two guys in uniform to the right of the pic Joe, those are WWII era uniforms.

Japan still has the overall quality advantage m'afraid. They do have a $50 billion budget, all that money has to go somewhere lol. When it comes to purely individual comparisons of the latest weapons, there are many in which Korea excels. For example the KD-III at sea, the F-15K in the air, and the K-2 MBT on the ground. When it comes to the army at least, Korea triumphs in both quality and quantity. While the individual infantryman suffers a bit when it comes to personal gear, we have massive numbers of modern "war-winning" weapons. We have 1,500 K1/K1A1 tanks to be followed by 480~ K2 tanks. They are both better than anything the Japanese can put up, and an army with 2,000 modern third-generation MBTs is the kind of number you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere outside of US and Russia!
The Japanese place heavy emphasis on its navy and air force, and this is where we suffer a severe disadvantage in quantity if not quality.

Is this the Haruna "141" Hiei "142" Shirane "143" or Kurama "144"? Eitherway damage looks extensive, she's going to spend some time in drydock or may even head to the scrapper judging by the age of these vessels.

Sounds like a good reason to see more pictures
They sure have a nice fleet sigh
Crossing my fingers for more KD-IIIs and hoping for the best in FFX, KDX-IIA.
It's hardly a threat though.

Or just not use them much, I'd suggest the latter, especially since they lack the logistics to put them on massively long trips and collect rust en route.

True, though all of their threats will have to come by land or sea, so a strong AF and Navy is important. Similar IMO to Taiwan but Taiwan obviously has far less capability to defend itself than Japan. Although the UK would seem similar, though I'd suggest they aren't very comparable.

That's probably not going to change for the time being, as Japan really has no need for an army, given the whole defensive posture of the JMSDF.
