Just thought I'd share some pics I dug up from a few places.
ROKN's Task Force Chunghae (Blue Ocean) has been operating off the coast of Somalia since March. Korea's contribution to the Combined Task Force 151, a KD-2 destroyer with Lynx helos and an onboard UDT SEAL team with RIBs has been working with Allied ships in anti-piracy operations.
Enjoy

None that's being used by the Army at the moment, but there are a lot of K-2s and its DR-200 export variant in the hands of American gun nuts who are doing some mad customizations of their own.

Funny enough, that picture is also one of those taken of the SEALs training aboard the Munmu as part of Task Force Chunghae. The snapshots I posted here are a select few of what I've collected and I think I might even have the one you posted somewhere on my hard drive!
Anyways, nice find

Funny that you would say that. KD-2's combat system is based off BAE's SSCS line, so I would assume that most console lay-out is based on BAE requirements.

Whats the Korean army's regulation on doing mods to rifles? Are personnel allowed to modify their own assigned rifles with self purchased approved parts?

I think it would be cooler and more original if instead of calling their sailor commandos "Seals" the ROK instead called them "Lobsters" - as in "ROK Lobsters"...
... Yeah, "ROK Lobsters", that would be cool...
Apart from that I always thought the wire stock on the K-1 looked kind of flimsy on an assault rifle, rather than say a grease gun, so that one with the beefier stock looks better to my amateur's eyes.

@ppp
I guess we shouldn't have expected BAe to be so incompetent.
And yes, those are upgraded Lynx/Super Lynx HAS 8s with FLIRs.
@COWlan
Well mostly, you use what you're given. Guys like the SEALs obviously get a whole lot more variety in weapons, but there is no telling how much individual choice and input they get when it comes to customization. Information on those guys are classified so I really don't have much else to tell you, but I can guess it isn't much.
@Yaguarete
They actually introduced hamburgers into the menu all across the military by the time I joined up. It was a good idea to try and spruce up the menu with something different, but everytime hamburgers were on the menu, the soldiers still wanted rice and they could have almost started a riot ROFL.

Rock Lobsters...
But we usually call these guys UDT SEALs, or simply UDT. UDT itself is a predecessor to the US Navy SEALs, but now that they're history, this is a name that makes us distinct and stand out more or less. In any case, by all official recognition, the UDT SEALs are no more, they merged with the SSU last year to form the "Naval Special Warfare Combat Group", but we're not ready to familiarize ourselves with that name anytime soon.
As for the K-1, nobody is in love with those thin wire stocks that's for sure. The folding stock on the K-2 wasn't the greatest thing in the world either. One particular K-2 that I got in training had a very loose stock... I could shake it and hear the thing rattle lol. Another trainee next to me folded his stock... and was never able to fold it back out again ROFL. But then again these were probably one of the first production batches with over 15~20 years of wear on it, hence their passing down from frontline units to our training regiments. Otherwise, I found them to be very rugged, reliable, and accurate rifles.

Don't forget the Egytian and Lebanese Navy SEALs, the Royal Dutch Navy had their own SEALs before it was merged into a larger command. SEAL seems to be popular moniker in the world's SF community, thanks in part to the reputation and cult status the US Navy SEALs have developed over the years.

Yes, very nice pics and thank you for them.
Girlie in the "rice" pic is kind of a cutie. But, did anyone else notice that they eat with their trays turned lengthwise? Saving space on small mess tables I assume?
ROK "Lobsters"...........? B-52s far are we?

The trays are actually much wider than they look (I've had one of my own for 2 years), I think it's the way the picture dimensions were set that it looks kinda squished.

Are there any other pictures of the LHA? I notice it has some kind of maintenance area in the tower, and the tower looks quite small anyway, so I'm guessing most of the functions that would be in it are below deck.

We are in the opposite side of the world... if you take out meat to our soldiers there is a mutiny in its way... ;O)

Yo, good to see you back GCap.
The ship's named after a Korean King who united our 3 kingdoms into a single state circa 600 A.D, and more importantly fought China in a couple of wars and kicked some serious Chinamen arse hehe.
Yaguarete, our boys love havin meat to go with their rice, and sometimes they don't mind having Western fare as long as they're decent, but the hamburgers are unpopular because they are so f-cking $hite lol. The buns are so chewy that they could nearly choke you, and the patties are... strange. There were some urban legends going around that they were grinding up chicken heads to make these things LOL. The spaghetti however, was pretty good stuff, nobody was screaming for rice then, and it was one of the few occasions that I went for seconds during all my times in the mess hall.

Can't go wrong with the Lynx really. The latest Super Lynx comes with all the bells and whistles AND they can operate off the smallest ships. We purchased these before KDX program went into full bloom, the now-retired Gearing-class destroyers were the mainstay of our fleet 15~20 years ago, and you couldn't fit the larger SH-60s in em, so the Lynx was an obvious choice. Now that we have much larger destroyers like the KD-2 and KD-3 in service with modern, plush helicopter facilites, the ROKN is starting to look for larger, medium ASW helicopters more suitable for blue-ocean anti-submarine operations where the MH-60R Seahawk seems to be the favroite.
But against pirates, the fast, nimble, FLIR-equipped Lynx is doing a better job than anything else could at the moment.
