Saudi Arabia may purchase up to 800 Leopard 2 battle tanks manufactured by German companies, Bild am Sonntag reported, citing unidentified people close to the German government.
The total value of the order could reach about 10 billion euros ($12.6 billion), the newspaper reported. The deal could secure the future of tank producers Krauss Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall, Bild said.

800 tanks????? nonsense , forget it..
First, the Greens in German parliament would certainly block or stop this and second you have to wait and see what Israil thinks about it? the Saudis ,if they plan to buy 800 new tanks which I doubt,might end up ordering the Challanger2 from Britain or M1 Abrahms. General Dynamics in the US closed its assembly line 20 years ago but they could certainly reopen the line for that amount !

The Greens in the German Parliament can stop nothing, as they are just a small bitching Opposition Party. The Bundessicherheitsrat eg. German Federal Security Council decides, and this is made up of the Government with CDU and FDP. Had the Saudis not send troops to crush the uprising in Bahrain last year they already would have gotten a green light. IF the sale takes place, they are going to order the new Urban Combat Leopard's and that is the problem, as most People here would have slight problems seeing German tanks crush civilians fighting for political freedoms.

If used in the right Way, these Leopards can crush any ragtag rebel force in no time.

It can shoot tear gas grenades, and from what I read is also able to fire grenades that explode unleashing rubber bullets in all directions. (which I personally would consider possibly lethal from what I know - but they count as non-lethal)

I have no Idea if the Saudis would consider ordering this special Ammo from Diehl or other German special firms, but the tank has the possibility to fire it.

Other thing, if saudis drive their tanks like they drive and drift with their cars, i dont see a healthy future for these tanks
