How much of this aid is given to the government and how much is given to NGO's?
Really think 280 million would make a difference? lol..this is more a political game in the UK than anything of any significance. Opposition probably trying to show the other party in the wrong light or something by saying hard earned money being used to fund others.

Last time I checked India said it did not want any brit aid but brits inisted they want to give aid. Most of this is to promote their own business interests. Nobody is asking for Brit aid.

The British just feel sorry for poor weak stupid indians .... nothing is better in india now compared to 1947 when the British donated the independence to half naked starved indian

It's a not-very-well-known fact that China, the world's second largest economy which holds $2.5 trillion in foreign reserves, still gets about $2.5 billion in foreign government aid every year. (Jack Chow recently explored how this plays out that the Global Fund for AIDS in an FP piece.)
What's even more surprising, given this month's events, is who the biggest source of that aid -- accounting for nearly half -- is:
Today's aid adds up to $1.2 billion a year from Japan, followed by Germany at about half that amount, then France and Britain. ...
Japan's generosity has historically been driven at least in part by a desire to make amends for its invasion of China in the 1930s. But in recent years Japanese lawmakers and officials have repeatedly questioned whether the money flow should continue, pointing to China's emergence as a donor to African countries.
It's pretty hard to see how this will continue to be tenable in the current Japanese political climate, particularly with China arresting Japanese workers sent to clean up World War II sites.
Well, Japan is doing a favor to itself by giving all that aid. Aussies should follow if they don't want containers. Japan with smaller land mass can not afford all that container ships heading there like Aussieland. Japanese don't want any sick men of asia in Japan in containers.

^Becasue they can keep their babies safe in container parks in whiteylands. In Haina everybody is very eager to eat sweet sour babies or turn them into pills. And there are plenty of dogs with p3nis in whiteylands to eat.

LOL again this aid thing. Seriously, the Brits need to get over this. This British whining is sounding so childish.Who is forcing them to give this "aid" ? Its not like the Indians are asking for it !
So the chinamen started a thread about aid to india and then it gets reversed by
showing china gets aid from japan..? So the chinamen in here got owned..?
But that never happens!!! What's this world coming to?!?
I just like how the chinamen ignore the Japan aid and start talking about Olympic medals.
When all else fails for a chinamen, they breakout the olympic medal card.

\\Too bad India's priorities are on its space and defence programs rather than its starving people\\
Development, technological development, defence capabilities all can and should go in parallel and thats what India is doing. India is not overspending either on defence or space exploration.Besides, the same development vs defence argument can be said about any country including Britain.

Come on sucking britman, development happens in all fields, not sequencially one field after another. India's defence spending is below its rogue nuclear power neighbors on both sides as percent of GDP more or less. And space pgm cost is 0.06% of gdp mostly spent on communication and remote sensing satellites and launchers.
Get over the idea that to you have to give any aid to your colony. We don't want your aid and its spent on promoting your own interest anyway. And as a former looter people of india you people should shut up and not speak about indian poverty. We can perfectly look after ourselves.

lol...the empire was over a long back buddy, let other nations decide whats best for them. Your aid isn't needed, take it back if you want. And while you're at it, please consider returning the stolen koh-i-noor diamond that lines your queen's crown. Thanks.

To be fair to India, why wouldn't they take it? Its just idiot politics over here. I've been saying for ages that foreign aid drives me up the wall, IMO the entire budget needs to completely scrapped and given to defence, especially in light of the horrendous cutbacks we've had to endure. Yeah it sucks that people in other countries are starving but we can't solve the world's problems and no one was around to help Europe when people were starving in the past so why does the third world have to have it?
An extra .7% of GDP would do nicely. Think i read somewhere that the foreign aid budget as is would pay for the trident replacement in 7 years (which is also now being taken from the defence budget).

Speaking of the Eurofighters close-in combat prowess, Major Marc Grne, CO of 742 (Zapata), the second squadron of the wing, described to assembled aviation journalists how, on a recent visit to France to demo the aircraft, he had won two out of two battles against the Dassault Rafale in mock within visual range dogfights. Both fights were a standard set-up and merge at 21,000ft and 30,000ft he recounted, adding that the higher the fight the better the Eurofighter liked it. He singled out the Eurofighters excess power as its trump card over the Rafale

India on Tuesday announced a $10 billion contribution to the IMFs additional $430 billion financial fund to help the debt-wracked 17-nation eurozone so that the faltering world economy is protected against spread of any financial contagion.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his address at the plenary session of the seventh summit of the Group of 20 developed and developing countries in the Mexican resort town of Los Cabos against the backdrop of growing calls to nations to increase contributions to the International Monetary Fund for the bailout fund.
Indias contribution along with pledges by other member countries of the five-nation BRICS bloc has helped increase IMFs resources and give a boost to the $430 billion fund being used as a firewall to support struggling eurozone economies.
The International Monetary Fund has a critical supportive role to play in stabilizing the eurozone. All members must help the Fund to play this role, I am happy to announce that India has decided to contribute $10 billion to the IMFs additional firewall of $430 billion, Singh told world leaders at the seventh summit of the grouping, which accounts for 80 percent the worlds GDP.
India has previously pledged to make contributions to the bailout fund but did not disclose the exact amount of its contribution to the fund.
