China must teach Japan a lesson, says Chinese daily

IANS | Sep 12, 2012

BEIJING: A lesson is necessary to dispel Japan's contempt toward China, said a state-run Chinese daily on Wednesday, a day after the Japanese government inked a deal to buy the disputed Diaoyu Islands.

A strongly worded editorial - "Discard illusion of friendly ties with Japan" - in Global Times said that Sino-Japanese relations suffered a serious blow on Tuesday when the Japanese government signed a deal to purchase the Diaoyu Islands with the self-proclaimed "owner".

"The friendly ties between the two countries established in the 1970s collapsed completely," it said.

The daily added: "Chinese anger of over a century toward Japan was awakened Tuesday, and will in turn affect Japanese feelings toward China. It appears inevitable the two sides will be overwhelmed by hatred again now that more conflicts can be expected. China needs to be prepared for further deterioration of bilateral ties. For Beijing, the future priority isn't to maintain stable ties, but to protect its core interests as Sino-Japanese relations sour."

The editorial said that though China was committed to building friendly ties with neighbours, the Diaoyu issue has turned China and Japan into opponents.

"China isn't used to having an adversary close by.

"...Japan inflicted painful atrocities against China in the past. It is now more developed than China, but is in decline. The balance of national power is shifting between the two. With such a close opponent, China can be spurred to action," it said.

The daily noted that Japan depends on the Chinese market more than China does on the Japanese market.

"A political confrontation will bring insignificant economic damage to China," it said. "...with China's nuclear deterrence, Japan is less likely to launch a military attack on China."

It said that China has been advocating friendly ties with its neighbour, but "Japan has created enough troubles for China over the years".

"But its behaviour toward the US and Russia demonstrates its inferiority toward strong countries. China cannot repeat what the US and Russia did to Japan. But a lesson is necessary to dispel its contempt toward China..."

Increasing its shrill pitch, the editorial went on to say that China is accumulating strength with its fast development.

"It can fully show this strength to Japan in a future conflict to reverse Japan's attitude toward China," it warned.

"Keeping friendly neighbouring ties is a good policy. But it cannot be achieved through one-sided begging and compromising."

The disputed islands in the East China Sea, which are also claimed by Taiwan, lie on a vital shipping route and are surrounded by large hydrocarbon deposits beneath them.

Japan says it has controlled the islands since 1895 until its surrender at the end of World War II. The islands were controlled by the US from 1945 to 1972 and subsequently returned to Japan's control. China claims the islands' discovery and control since the 14th century.

China and Taiwan started to lay claims on the islands in the 1970s when surveys showed the area was rich in hydrocarbons.

Tensions flared between Tokyo and Beijing, after Japan last month arrested 14 Chinese nationals, including activists from Hong Kong, and deported them over a protest landing on Uotsuri, the largest of a group of disputed isles.

I have to side with Japanese on this. China already has enough land. And if Japan already has control of it, is China ready to start a war over it for control? Not likely.

From what I have seen in the news the Japanese did buy them from the rightful owners already..

This was the first line from the story Kris posted on this the other day - "TIANJIN, China The Chinese government accused Japan on Tuesday of stealing a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea, hours after the Japanese government announced that it had bought them from their private Japanese owners for nearly $30 million."

Sounds to me like that is saying they have been bought.

the arrogant tone of the Chinese is very amusing for a country that has a long history of being beaten many times by those of its size many times smaller. the level of chinese arrogance always amazes, especially when they claimed the peace treaties they signed with Europeans after losing wars were illegitimate as they were "unequal treaties" as if losing side equals the winning side at the peace table, or that they themselves have given "equal treaties" to those they managed to win through sheer numbers. even in defeat they consider themselves equals. i lol.

As much as you want to ignore it, all the stories I have found on it through Googling all say the same thing. The Japanese bought the Islands from their private owners (who also happened to be Japanese) The Chinese are raging over it, but you cannot deny the facts that the sale did occur, as much as you may not agree with it, or feel it was not legal, it DID happen.

Not true ! The Japanese do control and administer them !

6 Chinese ships near islands in dispute with Japan
By MALCOLM FOSTER
Associated Press

TOKYO -- The Japanese government and coast guard said six Chinese surveillance ships entered Japanese waters Friday near disputed islands in the East China Sea, adding to tensions between the Asian giants.

After Japanese coast guard ships telegraphed warnings to the Chinese vessels, two or three moved beyond territorial waters but the others remained within the 12 nautical mile zone around the uninhabited islands that are controlled by Japan but claimed by both nations, said Yasuhiko Oku, an official with the Japanese coast guard in Tokyo.

Japanese must have read a lot of Chinese weibo (A social network in China and the biggest one in the world), and they got impression people would not support the gov.

But the real things are Chinese are always united when China deals with those who want to be China's enemy.

6 Chinese ships patroled the island. I bet a lof of fishing boats will be there. and the number could be in thousands as Chinese gov declared the surrounding water belongs to China.

Japanese gov considered Chinese gov's low profile as being weak. They are totally wrong. China only wants to focus more on economy. But for territory, nothing can be more important.

Several month ago, China's confrountation with Philippine like killing a chicken to warn monkeys. Now it likes killing a monkey to warning those chickens.

LOL, so china sends surveillance ships to the waters near the islands (not the Islands itself which Japan administers) and this is supposed to be a proff that Japan does not control the Islands ? Id Phillipenes sends ships near chinese waters, does that mean phillipenes control china ?

The island is not disputable. Chinese (KMT army) stationed on the island until 1950s.

I hate to bull shiit, all china need to do is put 20billion US $ to build 10000 DF21 destory tokyo, HONDA, TOYOTA, NISSAN, SONY, panasonic, mishbish, air port, power planet, TV stations, military bases.
and then japan falls, what japan can do to china? so don't be so stupid, japan has no chance to deal with china, even USA can't deal with china near china boarder, it's too far from USA mainland, and lack of land to support USA to fight with china.

let's make a math.

if china have 100000 missiles. and it's land is 9600000SQKM,
and USA have 100000 missiles. and it's land only 400000SQKM near by china, that's includ japan, korea, and other small island.

100000/400000=0.25 missile per SQKM.
and 100000/9600000=0.1missile per sqkm.

who will feel more painful after bombing? and USA still in economic problem they don't have such money to fight this war with china. and japan? it will be a waste trash land..... I don't know why they think they have a chence to deal with mighty china. crazy man

come on guys. let's face to fact.
if the war start up. there will be no ship-ship air craft-air craft fighting, ok?
the most likely is china shoot missliles to destory japan directly.
ships, air craft, air carrier, tank.... ect are bull shiit, they don't have a chance to fight face by face. most likely is japan can fall down in 1 day after missliles attack.
main industrial factories, company, power planet, TV station, major cities, military base, air port... all high vallue targets. and then japan will face on a big problem, they even don't have a chance to fight back to china. that's fact, they don't have long range missiles.

so. you got it? Japan VS China, CHINA 100% win, Japan 0%

OK? if you say no. then let's tell us how will they to fight with china?

china rightnow have 3000billion US$ in hand. spend 1000billions to build 500000 DF21(2million each) 200000 for india 200000 for japan, and keep 100000 for who ever wana to fight.
you india have nothing to defense from china's missile attack. even india+japan still no chance to the war with china. so india is loser nation. good luck and enjoin your weak mother india.

of course chinese have a real plans, the real plans is: the time is in china side, 10 years later, china will surpass USA to be world's strongest nation in the world, we have no rush to take Islands rightnow, the islands still there, they can not swimming away, all china need to do is economic war or missiles war 10 years later, that's too easy, why sould we so rush at this moment?

WE can take all those island any time we want(that's includ south china sea and the land in south tibet)
the choice is do it now or later, later is better for china, becouse the time is in china side, china growing fast, more longer more strong, so china is no rush! ^^

To Orientals:

Showing pics of oriental boats sailing around the islands does not constitute possession
or physical occupation of the island.

The Japanese have physical possession and have Japs on that island. What you orientals
are doing by sailing non military ships is metaphorically throwing a hissy fit and waving
your fist at Japs.

That statement neatly sums up why there is almost no point in trying to have any kind of serious military discussion here on WAFF any more.

But what the heck, I'll try...realistically speaking the PLAN likely could not take on the JMSDF by itself and achieve anything better than a Pyrrhic victory, which is all Japan really needs to ensure to maintain possession of the islands.

Japan is asking for another a-bomb or tsunami for all of the bad karma it's racking up.

I can't speak for Senkaku/Diaoyu, but Japan's claim on Dokdo is beyond ridiculous and their subsequent filing of their claim to the ICJ and cutoff of high-level dialogue with Korea is a major disgrace and diplomatic faux-pas...

Their obvious and shockingly unapologetic trackback to their imperialistic past has me leaning closer to China in this case, although the latter's own territorial ambitions and revisionist attempts as of late have been rather distasteful as well.

What can I say, we're the only voice of sanity and reason in a region full of hot-headed retards and underhanded thieves. Uncle Sam needs to wake up and treat Japan as a potential future enemy as well instead of enjoying having their balls suckled by these devious midgets. I'm glad at least that Hilary Clinton gave them a much-needed b1tchslap recently in their attempted cover-up of WWII sex slaves, the first of many more to come I hope.

What is this..? Are the Japs supposed to be scared of a bunch of midgets sailing around
those islands..? [linked image]

You're not on the island, moron! You chinamen are not as dumb as you look. If any chinamen
were to attempt a landing right now, you'd get whacked over the head by a Jap.

If you wanna show some balls... how about they send a chinese destroyer instead of a coast guard
boat or a bunch of starving chinamen in fishing boats.

Kris,no body care about your position. but please stop making a fool of yourself, the island is uninhabited and uninhabitable (very little land and rain water only).
do you mistaken the activists who landed there for a few hours once a while as inhabitants? do you read any news or background before you comment? do you know how much you lower the standard of this site ever since you jointed?

Speaking of the Eurofighters close-in combat prowess, Major Marc Gr´┐Żne, CO of 742 (Zapata), the second squadron of the wing, described to assembled aviation journalists how, on a recent visit to France to demo the aircraft, he had won two out of two battles against the Dassault Rafale in mock within visual range dogfights. Both fights were a standard set-up and merge at 21,000ft and 30,000ft he recounted, adding that the higher the fight the better the Eurofighter liked it. He singled out the Eurofighters excess power as its trump card over the Rafale

//Kris,no body care about your position.//

And you think anyone cares about yours..? All you WAFF chingpongs live in the west and have no say what happens in china.

But as a taxpayer my government does care of my opinion on this matter. We are true friends of Japan and have many
Americans stationed there.

Nobody cares about what china thinks... Well maybe your fleas but that's it!

//but please stop making a fool of yourself, the island is uninhabited and uninhabitable (very little land and rain water only).//

So why does china look and sound like a little baby that just had its pacifier taken away..? It's just a uninhabited island.

I don't care what Japs do in their island. And i don't care if me "jointing" Waff has lowered its standard.

This QQ dude is entertaining. I hope he is not a 10 year old that we are picking on. So China is going to develop and maintain more nuclear missiles than the US and USSR did, combined, during the peak of the cold war? 1 million nuclear capable missiles? LOL!

Chinas slowing economy could complicate relationship with U.S.

The Chinese economy on Friday showed worrisome signs of slowing down, a development that not only threatens global economic growth but also may complicate the relationship between China and the United States.

China reported that its exports, a critical driver of economy activity, grew by only 1 percent in July, far below the 11 percent rate seen in the prior month. It was the latest evidence that the worlds second-largest economy is losing steam, a problem for U.S. businesses that sell their goods and services to China.

Japan needs to garrison the islands and plant thousands of advanced naval mines within a twelve mine radius of the island.

Then let the Chinese explode themselves on the mines.

And the biggest excuse that US made to interfere in this region is to guarantee free navigation on international water. Naval mine warfare by japs is just big slap on US daddy's faces in public.

"And the biggest excuse that US made to interfere in this region is to guarantee free navigation on international water. Naval mine warfare by japs is just big slap on US daddy's faces in public."

Mining your own territorial waters is a legitimate self defense action. Placing mines in a small defined area and then marking that area so that everyone is aware to stay out of the area is japans best option to stop Chinese from causing trouble in the area.

"LOL you fool. Don't forget jap is an island nation. China can make tons of naval mines in no time. Jap is doomed in a naval mine warfare with China."

The above action would be a act of war and would bring world squarely into Japan's corner on the matter, Chine also need ports to export its goods and would be open to retaliation by the same methods.

Mining areas around a island for self defense reasons is entirely different then placing mines to blockade ports and interrupt trade routes.

China will not wage war anywhere near main islands of Japan that would risk a prolonged disruptive conflict. A minor island smash and grab is as far as China will go. So Japan can garrison and mine the area are it can risk China rushing in and doing it instead.
