Starting 2nd shift Sunday. 3pm to 11:30. Sunday through Thirsday nights. Guess what that means?
ps. This is the first job I've had in about twenty years that I haven't had total control over what I do on the job regarding actually working vs screwing off for hours on end with no accountability.

And swing shift to boot, that's brutal dude. The accountability and no screwing off is a total bummer, what kind of a sick organization is that anyway?

Won't name the company, but it is one of the largest beer distributors in the country.

Swings has it's benefits....but you are right about control----
I finally left the s.o.b.s I had worked for for 22 years....

The job I have now is far less stressful and far less work...but the old job---I made almost all the decisions that dictated my day...versus this one..where I have constant supervision.....I'm really surprised at how much that matters to me....
good luck

Ahhhh Dob .... you must be working for "Olde Frothingslosh" ?? LMAO

Congrats on the job, but sorry to hear about the 2nd shift.
I worked swing-shift for 25 years .. and HATED the second shift.
7 on 11p - 7a
1 off
7 on 3p - 11p
1 off
6 on 7a - 3p
5 off

I really like my "retirement job" of driving all over the N/E for the car dealership. Been there 7+ years now. Those occasional 800+ miles days can get a little tiring, but I ain't got NOBODY hanging over my shoulder! And I can take any route I deem to the best (regarding tolls and the like) and I can leave whenever I want, so I have complete autonomy! Which to me is a HUGE perk! wink.gif

Have a good one

Well hang in there Dob, if you end up hating it, you can always get "canned" for drinking beer?

Olde Frothingslosh

KW,

I had to laugh when I read your reference to Olde Frothingslosh beer. I first encountered it when I was stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware in 1962. I still remember their commercial stating words to the effect," Drink Olde Frothingslosh, the pale stale ale with the foam on the bottom cause the label is reversed. Thanks for the memory.

KW..I don't think I could ever get used to east coast traffic, but I think I would like your job---provided it was in dreary midwest.

JimBob ... glad you liked that one! Just a blast from the past.

Leo ... It's not really so much getting used to the traffic, as it is a case of knowing how to avoid the worst places during the heaviest times. Like if I go to Boston, I leave at 4am and am back around 3pm, which is long before the north end of the NJ Turnpike or Parkway get loaded-up. Same goes for Pittsburgh. The PA pike starts getting really bad around 3:30. Washington D.C. is kinda like Chicago. But there's other places like Virginia Beach, the Shenandoah mountains in VA/NC, Utica-Syracuse and Lake Placid areas in NY. So other than the occasional accident or a protracted period of time stuck in a construction zone, it's a good job.
(Exception: the stress level heightens whenever I have to go through Oyster Bay Long Island. Billy Joel is a HORRIBLE driver!) LMAO

I've been traveling around the N/E enough years to know most of the scenic routes. That way you get the best of both worlds. It doesn't really pay much, but ..........

I'm supposed to be headed-up to Brattleboro or Bennington Vermont on Tuesday. And the leafing season is in full swing up there right now. Imagine, getting paid to sight-see? LOL

Okay, You know I'm not going to let that one go. I assume you have an amusing Billy Joel driving anecdote to share?
P.S. If I had known the difference between anecdote and antidote my cousin Billy might be alive today.

No Dob ... no stories about Billy Joel like I have about Springstein, Southside Johnny, John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. (aka:Jon BonJovi) or Richard Sambora! wink.gif

It's just a well known fact out there on the Island that his driving was (still is?) horrible.

He was in a horrible wreck back in June of 2002, after which he checked himself into a drug and alcohol clinic. Then in 2003 he slammed into a tree out in the Hamptons. Then he slammed into a house in 2004. Back in rehab in 2005. He seems to have either stopped driving all together, or finally got his act together, as I haven't heard anything about his driving lately.

The weird thing was that in every crash he was in, there was never any alcohol and/or drug involvement reported!?! wink.gif

OH HEY- LEO ... speaking of NAME DROPPING! You like the Blues, no? wink.gif

Can't remember if I ever mentioned this but ... I've got a couple of long-time buddies of mine who still have blues bands. I've known these guys since forever.
Joe Zook and the Blues Deluxe
The Paul Plumeri Blues Band

"All I Can Hear Is The Blues" and "Old Maid Boogie" are very cool!
