Looking for a propellor

September 22 2002 at 3:00 PM

I would like to place a propellor from a genuine propliner (none of your ATP, ATR42, SF340 etc rubbish) in our back garden-and before you ask, my wife has already agreed to it.

It can be from any propliner, though I would like to know a little about its history. I am in the UK, so would prefer to source it here rather than in say Arizona, to avoid huge shipping costs. Can anybody help?

Quite a few Viscounts have been broken up here over the last few years-does anyone know what happened to their propellors, or have Duxford or Cosford got any spares?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Looking for a propeller from an airliner for your back garden????

Ok, what horsepower does the garden carry and will that be electric or hydralic? I take it she carries
vegitables only as cargo?

Michael,
What about an old C47 prop? There were plenty of C47's scrapped in the UK and surely there must be one around somewhere.

I believe that many old props were cut up in the Coventry area, so that may be a place to start looking.

Good idea David and thanks for this.

You are very well informed about the UK, despite being on the other side of the world: Shackleton Aviation at Coventry scrapped scores of propliners over the years and Coventry airport has always been the best place to see propliners in the UK(and remains so-Atlantic Airlines operate two DC6s, some DC3s and a large fleet of Electras on freight services from there and they have just bought the whole of the ex-Reeve Aleutian Electra fleet).

So yes, I will start a search of scrapyards around Coventry.

Many thanks.

Drive a hard bargain, props without historical paperwork are not worth much money at all, regardless of apparent condition.
