Dutch Connie is 'back' home now...

September 29 2002 at 5:34 AM

Saturday, Sept. 28th, A Big Day!
At 13:40 hours local time she landed at Lelystad Airport after some fly-by's: N749NL, a Lockheed Constellation L749. About 5.000 people welcomed Connie and her crew. The wheather was good: dry, 50% clouds, temperature about 18'C.

After a two hours flight from Manston (UK) Dutch Connie N749NL flew along the Dutch Coast and was seen about 13:30 hours by Lelystad, which was renamed for this day by Ladytown (Ladystad). At the end of the evening she was flown to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, where Connie will be repainted in former KLM colours.

Connie was flown from the USA to Holland by the Connie MATS crew. They did a great job: flying this oldie across the Atlantic! And all Aviodome volunteers: it's great what you did! Congratulations to all!

For some pictures, visit the Aviodome-site (www.aviodome.nl) in the next few days or see some pictures:

Frank,

Your news of their arrival is tremendous...and the
photos of Connie with her hundreds of fans welcoming her in Holland brings on the old goose
bumps. Beautiful shots. Thank you very much.

Congratulations to you Dutch. You are amazing!

Nice shots Frank! Looks like the crowd at Lelystad was rather larger than the crowd at Duxford, eh!

Well Done

September 30 2002, 5:13 AM

Was at Duxford last week, managed to get to see the Connie depart to Manston, an awesome spectacle.

What are the long term plans for the aircraft, be a shame for it to be a Museum piece, considering all the hard work that has gone into the project.

Keith.

Plans with Dutch Connie

September 30 2002, 4:25 PM

Dear Keith and others,

May be Aviodome (Mark or Arno?) can give some more information about further plans with Dutch Connie for next year. They really have great plans, but that's just what I read in the newspapers today and last Saturday...

Best,
Frank Sangers

For some more beautiful pictures of Dutch Connie see

http://www.aviodome.nl/connie/aankomst.htm

It's about the approach of the Dutch coast, after landing at Lelystad and Amsterdam. The pictures are taken by Peter de Witte, Raymond Oostergo and Theo Riemslag Baas. Excellent!

enjoy,

Dutch Connie

October 3 2002, 4:35 AM

Hi all, Frank,

We will come back to you on our plans for the Connie later next week, I think.

The aircraft is in the mean time in the KLM hangar. She will there receive attention technically and cosmetically. The KLM paintshop will paint the aircraft in the original KLM livery.

We will try to give you all regular (hopefully on a weekly basis) updates via the Connie website. The translation of the last few days will also follow ASAP

Thank you very much, on behalf of the Connie crew and our museum, for all your enthusiasm and support during this project!

Keep you posted!

Kindest regards,

Mark

WEB: updated my Connie page

Hi all,
yesterday morning I paid a visit to the Dutch Connie while work was in progress to take off the props. Have updated my website ref Connie's Comeback with some photos I made that day.

Great

Dear Ruud,

It's good to follow how Dutch Connies further rebirthing will take place. I really hope those props will come back once...they need some more money...leasing props, something new?

For everybody who wants to see some excellent pictures of Connie in Duxford, last week, see:

http://futurshox.net/viewer.php3?id=1045

Like Ruud's pictures, it's really if you're there.

Best,
Frank Sangers
