On http://www.wimparmentier.nl/1292_page.htm
there's information about a DC-2 in bad condition. It's one of the two last DC-2's in Australia.

Is there anybody who can give me more information about this plane?

thanks,

DC-2 in Australia (2)

Owen Veal of the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre reported me that there are two DC-2's in Australia. The first one is in Albury; the second one should be at Tyabb airfield in Victoria. There is one in poor condition (Ex A30-9). Is there anybody who can help me with further information?

Thanks,
Frank Sangers

Australian DC2's

Frank,
A30-9 is the airplane at Tyabb. it is not in great condition.

Tyabb is on the Mornington Peninsula, South East of Melbourne. It is also the home of several flying warbirds owned by Judy Paye.

The DC2 at Albury I have heard about, but never seen and I do not know its history. I can only assume that it is a static displayed airplane, commemorating the towns original link with the original Uiver.

Since the original Uiver made an emergency night landing on the towns race course, that location would be a good place to start looking (if anyone does go to have a look.)

Albury is about a 5 hour drive from where I live and I have not been there for over 20 years.

Why??? The First ( 1286 ) is in static over in Albury like the Uiver.. Then the 1292 there goes this story about... but also there seems to be the 1376, this one should be unther restauration... who know's more??

Greetings Wim Parmentier ( www.wimparmentier.nl for more DC-2 )

DC-2's in Australia

There are still three DC-2's remaining in Australia

A30-11 restored at Albury Airport on a pole to represent the KLM entrant in the 1934 air race, (currently removed from pole and being reviewed for future under cover display)

A30-9 stored for many years with wings etc removed at Tyabb airport, recently donated to the Australian National Aviation Museum

Both of the above aircraft are ex Eastern Airlines DC2 aircraft acquired by the RAAF during WW2.

VH-CDZ, a former KNILM DC2 that escaped to Australia from advancing Japanese forces, and sold to the USAAC as a C49, it later flew post war with Marshall airways and is currently under long term restoration to fly in Sydney.

I can provide msn etc on the above aircraft if required

I noticed an old link to this census above,

http://www.adastron.com/aviation/three/ozcensus-dc2.htm

this link provides the aircraft ID's etc for the 3 DC-2's still remaining in Australia

regards
