Boeing Stratoliner

Has anyone any knowledge concerning the alleged rebuild
of the Boeing Stratoliner in Washington State? The last I heard, which was several months ago was that it was thought that volunteers would again start work on it. I don't believe, at least I cannot remember, any
determination of just how far the restoration would go.
In other words, whether or not it would be restored back to flying condition or to static display status.

It's supposed to be flying again this summer. I have no update on the progress to date.

What ever happened to the IDIOTS that were flying the airplane. Did the FAA ever pull their tickets or did Boeing manage to cover the whole affair up by promising to rebuild the airplane? These guys were true candidates for the Darwin Award and shouldn't be trusted with flying anything more complicated than a paper airplane! I hope that the airplane owners (Smithsonia NASM) find some competent guys to fly it to Dulles later in the year.

Amen to that. If they do ever fix the airplane, it probably should be trucked over to the Smithsonian.

The Stratoliner is being rebuilt and refitted as before. Not sure if they plan to fly it back or not, but it will have a one-way trip to the Smithsonian.
