I think you might be misinterpreting the position mainstream contemporary psychologists take with regard to childrens' exposure to sexuality (Did you pick that up in church... ?) Try to distinguish between the idea of children seeing and learning about sex (what exactly are you trying to hide from them?), and children actually being sexually abused.
Perhaps... children are no less capable of making sense of what they see (I refer to scenes you are discussing from MD) than are adults. The difference, rather, being the degree of novelty of the situation and the subjectivity of the child themselves, which is why, it is probably a very good thing that the eight year old be given an opportunity to learn that sex exists as a/the vital component of human life (procreation). That is, it is better to be understood at eight while under the care of a loving adult, than in a potentially more psychologically damaging situation... with results... similar... to the way you described them.
There will be no guilt or psychological turmoil resulting from watching those scenes. Instead, I think that the experience would more likely be theraputic, in a sense, and preventative of psychopathological effects in the future.
Education is preparation, and to allow the reality that sex exists to be understood is much healthier than such an absurd degree of censorship.
Just a thought.
Aside from the fact that you state you'd prefer the government to decide what can be viewed by whom and when (does it smell fascist in here, or is it just you?) you are equivocating "well-know throughout the world". What you are talking about is actually just YOUR personal belief, which is, believe it or not, radically conservative.
As far as the "desensitize our children" argument, that's simply not logical.
